Yes , absolutely. The colours are over saturated on the mini 2 (nothing you can't fix in post) but yes the image is just clearer and far superior on the Air 2S. Also once you color grade it, you get a really amazing quality video.

Yes, what program did you use to color grade? I’m especially interested in the Mini 2 footage, as I own that drone ;) I find it hard to figure out a way to color grade my footage as a amateur drone operator 😅

Lovely comparison - while I think the Mini 2 looks amazing - when you compare them side by side there's an obvious blocking effect by the codec on details like grass or small tree branches. Mini 2 is softer but also over sharpened a bit to compensate. But not sure the price difference is worth it between the two. There's definitely a place for both depending the production you need. For a one man band travel cinematography the mini rocks - for a production company the extra sharpness, resolution, color profiles and overall flexibility plus flying speed active track etc should be worth it.

You said a mouth full here. I think i may upgrade from the mini 2 to the mini 3. The camera on the 3 is pretty much as good or the same as the air 2s

This is exactly what I was looking for! I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the air 2S and watching comparison videos but all of them seem to just cover the specs and features. I wanted to see the ungraded and graded footage compared. It would be awesome if you could do a nighttime comparison since that’s when the 1”sensor will really shine

you will still get relatively crap footage from inch sensor in low light, its all marketing for ppl that dont know any difference. not good enoughevenfor photos, unless you like to watch them on you mobile.

There's an evident difference in color quality but Air 2S has the DLog option that makes it better.

In my experience, people use dlog as a crutch. Instead of getting everything right with settings/filters, they rely on the extra information to fix their mistake. With a little colour grading you can get the mini 2 footage quality right below a drone that costs 700 bucks more, and is heavy enough you can’t fly basically wherever you want to.

@@Chimera_Photography No, people use D LOG as a way to get the extra amount of dynamic range out of the sensor. Try under exposing log footage and see the results. D LOG will not save an image that isn't exposed properly, it just provides more flexibility for professionals that want to push and pull and get a better looking image.

I recognized the difference in all the cases. The Air 2 S looks pretty good! I have a Mini 2 and will save up for the Air 2 S. In the meantime I have a lot to learn to improve the videos on my channel. Thanks for the hard work on the comparison.

Definitely sharper image on 2S. Just like compering professional camera with mobile phones. Also, sensor size makes difference. Great video!

Io ho anche fatto dei lavori professionali con il mini 1 che non aveva il 4k figuriamoci con questo...

I love the Mini 2!!! Best drone for the money. But if you need a semi-pro drone, Air 2S it is!

Yes absolutely. Also I'd say Air 2S is really a professional drone, not semi-pro, the video quality that you get out of this drone is just insane. The 10bit 5.4K D-Log is just something else.

@@simp502 absolutely ! I just don't think it's for everybody...especially if you're gonna use it for your social platforms, the mini 2 is more than enough, for its price, I really think that the mini 2 is the almost perfect drone of 2021.

Quite incredible. Ive got the Mini2 and about to change for Air2s but now I've got my doubts. The Mini2 footage is definitely on par with the A2s in your footage and to be honest, I'm kinda shocked. Im a photographer so i have a good eye for photo quality and i think the Mini2 is amazing for what it is. I must say this to anyone reading this , we live in a time where people want to constantly upgrade their equipment, get the latest, get the best and get the sharpest instead of upgrading their skills, their technique, their eye. Wanting the best equipment is normal but don't get hung up on it. Concentrate on improving your photographic eye and vision. Unless your working professionally and selling your work to paying clients, the gear you've got is probally adequate.

I guessed everything right! But I won't kid, I love how the Mini 2 stark up to the Air 2S...... I love my Mini 2💯 I love your grading and how smooth you fly.

The difference in colors and exposure are visible, Air 2S is more toned-down, cooler. I was right every time in side-by-side vids. But it's nothing that couldn't be corrected in post-processing imo. For the picture quality only, I see no huge difference, not worth $700 for sure. Greetings from the happy owner of Mini 2 ;) Cheers and thanks for this.

yes. but in general its most obvious when you watch the same scene side by side or one after the other... if someone shoots an entire video with a mini 2 or air 2s its much harder to know which is which.

I should note, after flying my air 2s, my friend exchanged his mini for the air 2s. There's a lot of features these videos dont cover, like follow mode, POI and highlight modes which the mini doesn't have.

Colours are a bit oversaturated on the mini 2 and the image is sharper on the S2, however if I bought a drone I’d probably go with the mini 2, smaller and lighter, no need to register it which is handy, and it’s half the price and still incredible quality

Thanks. I actually captured some of my best videos to date on the Air 2...and I still use it today. I think the Air 2 is the best bang for the buck drone, and the D-CineLike is amazing.

clearly, that 1inch sensor size gives overall a lot more details in the image, that's what you need when you drone in nature you don't want any musshhh water paint in your nature details like trees

I’ll go for my mini 2, it’s still a worth product to buy

Dji Mini footage is easily to distingush from its bigger brother, it has more satured colors, especialy greens and yellows.

air2s has considerably better images imo and the colors are much more true to life, but the mini 2 is so compact, almost invisible and can fly basically anywhere without much restrictions, where the air2s falls into the category above 249gr drones and that brings a shitload of rules and obligations just to fly it. So ye, it's a sword that cuts on 2 sides for me personally. If with newer releases the mini gets a better and better camera, more and more people would probably just buy the mini because how much freedom you have with it.

The mini has a demonstrably overblown warmth to the image. I picked the right one every single time because the mini was too warm and the greens were almost nuclear, and it also has a mushiness to the details. The Air 2S has a way sharper image (especially in the dark areas), but you'd need to know how to grade to make its image pop like the mini does. All in all, the mini is the way to go if you are just out to shoot some video and is way more consumer grade. The Air 2S skews more towards the "pro-sumer" side and demands you know a bit more about the craft of color grading.

You're quickly becoming one of my favourite drone channels. Love your work man!

You can tell the greens are much better in the Air2s but I think that can be achieved in the Mini 2 by turning down the white balance. Most people who are buying either of these drone are more recreational and would likely not be filming d-log and spending hours colour editing, and why bother? The colour out of both is outstanding. I am making a video with the difference between d-log and normal for the Mavic 2 series.

Great comparison man. I returned the Mini 2 within a week, got the Mavic Air 2 and loved it then crashed the crap out of it, and now have the Air 2s and love it better than the others. The 2s footage has so much more detail that the Mini 2 and the low light capabilities of the 2s 1 inch sensor is worth the price difference for what I use it for. I agree. I’m not a content creator but I travel the US and the Air 2s just performs. Many shots the mini 2 looks great but not even close to the air 2s. Great for its price though

I absolutely agree, but the majority of people won't be using drones in low light, and for day light or sunrise/sunset it's perfect. Also the wind resistance is a lot better than you might think, I almost lost 2 times my mini 1, but the mini 2 handles it quite well actually (in sports mode and always flying forwards, never had a problem with it)

@@DenisBarbas Yeah, people seem to think a lot of drone flyers actively want to go out during foggy crappy days or at night to record video. I really only enjoy flying it during sunny days or right before the sunset.

Brilliant video. Honestly I think the mini 2 is all you need for KZread. I’d buy two of those over one air2s, especially knowing that the Mavic 3 is on it’s way, which will invariably blow the air2s out of the air 😃

Yeah I definetely agree with you. Air 2S is a great drone but still has a lot of drawbacks in my opinion (no variable aperture, no side sensors, old ocusync 2.0 controller even if the drone supports ocusync 3.0....) I'd rather wait for the Mavic 3...and for youtube and instagram Mini 2 is just the perfect drone, especially considering the price.

@@DenisBarbas Drawbacks? You get variable aperture on Mavic 2, which has even more drawbacks by this logic (no O3 at all, lower resolution, worse Active Track). The price and the size are the only areas where Mini 2 has advantages.

I think if you don't need the 10 Bit 5.4K D-Log , then it's definitely a better choice to go for the Mini 2. It's a really amazing drone that can do almost everytning you throw at it..and if you use it properly the results are just incredible.

I wouldn't say way more, the results were pretty similar

with standard picture profile on the DJI air 2s they match quite well...D Log on the other hand changes EVERYTHING...imagine if the DJI mini 2 had D-LOG ?

Great video, very helpful.

If you want to get same picture with drone and camera on the ground you have to get Air 2s (becouse of picture profiles). Also you can't do anything with mini 2 in low light conditions. On the other side, you can fly with mini above buildings, etc. (with permitions - depend in which country you are). So... It's all about you're needs. For profesional work you need both. 🙂

Mini 2 combo $950, Air 2s combo $2050 Australian. I have mini 2 combo, it's price and ability, it's the best for me. I want Dji updates improved. No more mistakes!. Or my next drone will be Autel.

The 2S was way sharper but muted colors I wonder if sharpening the mini footage will compensate

Cool video, I knew each time which one was the mini 2, more saturation and the image is a little too sharp on edges etc. With the Mini 3 Pro coming out now it'll be interesting to see what the camera on that offers in comparison to the Air 2S if it's 10bit too then RIP AIR 2S!

I used the mini2 for 2 years, traveled 690 km with it and then bought the air 2. The mini has artificially added contrast, it does not have the depth of the air2. As for flying, the air 2 is a beast compared to the mini 2. The Air 2 is a far more serious aircraft than the mini 2 and the mini 3.

💥So many times I picked the Mini 2 which I own. I’m thinking of buying the Air 2S but I’m wondering what the advantage is.

Mini: 1. Warmer images 2. Darker, will be less responsive to low light too

Yeah it sure destroys the mini2, but most of the people shoot in normal day-light conditions, and this is what this video's for.

Beautiful cinematic looking shots and great comparison! The Mini 2 holds up against the Air 2S very well! Glad I picked up one a while ago. Are you using the auto exposure controls for both drones or are you manually dialling them in/using ND filters for these shots?

Thank you. No I never use auto exposure I used manual exposure and used the same ND 8 or ND 16 on both drones with the same exact settings.

You could get an XPS with a dedicated GPU and air 2S for $$$$$ and a heavy backpack OR MacBook Air M1 and MINI 2 for a much lighter backpack and $$$$ money in your backpack for activities instead of specs. I’m so jealous at this new generation of people with great tech, when I was a kid, the parrot AR.drone was like the king back then.

Thank you. On the Air 2s I used the original filters which are provided by DJI in the Fly More Combo...on the Mini 2 I used ND-8 and ND-16 from Freewell filters.

Great review. Wasn't sure which one to buy as my first drone. Both - Fly more kits - were 20% off. Went for the Air 2S. Probably overkill with my type of use when I see the quality of the Mini 2 here :-/

If you'll use the 10 bit D-Log to color grade in the post then you definitely did the right choice...the colours just pop up and the quality is super clean and sharp when I color grade the videos from the Air 2S. Best video quality in the game right now

great comparison. There is a noticeable difference in image quality with the Air 2S being sharper and brighter but it's not a huge difference. How much louder is the Air 2S compared to the mini 2?
