DJI simply cap the action 4 temperature because of EU regulations. None EU models like US and Global just beats the gopro in many test uve seen

Great job on the comparison. One feature I'm curious about is the UVC output mode on the DJI and whether it still supports stabilization while in that mode. Could be great for IRL streaming with an external encoder. I don't think the GoPro offers UVC as all.

The DJI deffo looks sharper but the colour also looks more natural to my eyes plus you can use an external wireless mic like the Rode wireless Me and you don't need to buy a "media mod" to use it and you can swap out batteries without having to take everything apart

I'm looking for an action camera that will run 2 hours straight, without over-heating, for motorcycle endurance racing. I have watched many others' race footage, to find that their Gopro overheated. During the race, there is no time to make adjustments. Of all camera options, what would you recommend?

Thank you a non bias review. It’s easy to understand your preference and why but you do highlight wins and losses with both platforms well. It’s appreciated to see during my research.

2:01 for the stabilization part, I don't think it's fair to compare the stabilization when action 4 is on its wider or ultrawide mode and gopro on its linear mode. The stabilization capabilities are both largely affected by the FOV mode and the stabilization mode. Meanwhile, I'm wondering what your settings are. In my daily use, if I manually limit the ISO or shutter speed, the stabilization on action 4 would be weird and jittery. But if I set it all in auto, everything is buttery smooth. I'm thinking it might be due to the different priorities of action cams EIS strategy when it comes to the stabilization. I would suggest doing a stabilization test when everything is set to auto and using its widest FOV and lowest stabilization mode. But still, thanks for your comparison video. Still learning a lot!

When you say limit shutter, do you mean set minimum shutter speed to say 1/200? Other videos I’ve seen say that this improves stabilisation?

Yes. sometimes i will also use 1/320 with ND, there will still be some motion blur but stabilized enough. @@17cream

Excellent video! I have both devices and enjoy them both. Sure wish GoPro would start using quick release clips and develop their own wireless mic set. Love the Fiat - I had the same model for a little over 8 yrs and enjoyed the heck out of it. ✌🏻

Excuse me, where specifically did you test the batteries for oveheating? I mean which country? Did you know that it depends in which country the DJI is situated? There are higher limits of temperature wneh you are in the USA. Did you see similar test from your american collegues? Usually they have DJI as a winner

Gopros fail on me all the time, cold, warm, dry, wet, studio, location. They're just unreliable and it's a gamble using them. Dji all day. I'll never use a gopro again tbh.

I use a GoPro to film everything on my channel and the amount of anxiety it gives me on a daily basis is unbearable. Always turning itself off, corrupting files, and somehow manages to delete the audio track for some clips. It simply cannot be relied upon. I’m upgrading to the DJI.

Just ordered a DJI action and a DJI osmo 4. The continuous updates from DJI for me kill any chance of me using GoPros too. It’s a better product tbh

Overheating test. Bet the fps was not the same Dji 4k 120fps for 45 mins And Gopro 12 4K 30fps.....why? Gopro 12 can only record in 62 min on 4k 120fps, and 102 min on 30 fps.

Kai, nice comparison but one key benefit of the OA4 is the ability to easily use it with external microphones like the DJI lav mics. Would have been nice to mention that since you have used it in some of the shots.

Yeah but the way the receiver connects is really silly and fragile. Stick the media mod on the GoPro and it's so much better for external mic connection

I just got the GoPro 12, as a bday gift. My first GoPro. I love it. Great camera, pocketable, fun. I use it for simple daily vlogging, not action. So far, so good. I also have a Sony ZV1, and you better believe I have my eyes set on the OSMO Pocket 3, but the GoPro is a great “throw in my jacket pocket” and never worry camera. I also got the Volta, which is brilliant. I can film for hours and hours on one battery. I love it!

As far as I know, Backbone doesn't mod DJI cameras, so GoPro is the only choice. Having owned the Backbone GoPro 11 for a year with a dozen C-mount lenses bought from aliexpress, I've had great pleasure filming 4K slow-mo footage at a cheaper price and smaller form factor than anything else on the market! Its main flaw is low light situations I would say. My favourite feature is probably the 8:7 aspect ratio, as I like to post things in both horizontal and vertical format.

Just ordered OA4 form gopro hero 10 user gopro had a lot of issue and when i needed the most go pro went carzy haha

I so want to want the Sony action cam for the sensor and lens.

Sony has not made another SteadyShot camera since the FDR-X3000, which was released in 2016 and discontinued in 2019. And it is still the champ when it comes to low light cameras in it's class.

Great Video! I will use an action cam for snowboarding and probably diving (not too deep). Anyone an idea which one I should buy?

The GoPro provides SO much more data in its high bit rate modes. 150mbps vs only 90 on the DJI.

Does anyone know if there’s a shutter delay when taking photos on the action 4? I know it’s horrendous on the GoPro. You press it and an hour later, it takes the picture 😂

he's proving a point :) I'm sure you can also open up the case up put some copper plating in there to spread the heat better to the case

overheating issue is due to EU regulation with Action 4, my global Japan version is just as long as what you had with GoPro 12 (I can even go 4K60 without a problem), I find that no one is complaining about it in the dji forum at all. all of the OA4 model that is outside of EU doesnt overheat fast like that

some even say DJI action 4 have no overheat issues and last longer than hero 12, think it depends on the use of the camera then ayy

Hey man, I absolutely love your videos. But I just want to say, I would have never found you had I not accidentally clicked on one of your videos. I'm saying this is the most constructive way possible: you need more interesting/eyecatching thumbnails in my opinion. At least to me, your thumbnails make the video look like it isn't very high level production and probably wouldn't be worth my time, but you make absolutely fantastic videos. Again, not trying to be rude, just saying I think better thumbnails would help a lot. Keep up the great work!

First time ever that I heard that GoPro don't overheat

I have both and the DJI Action 4 is unusable with sharpness set above its lower level of -2. But at -2 it outperforms the GoPro in multiple aspects!

So, why is there no audio at the end?

I would say Kai exported the videos timeline too long... This would have been B roll left in by accident, at a guess.

DAMN if overheating is a thing with the DJI i'm not happy about it at all. Was gonna ditch the GoPro but the GoPro doesn't overheat, sucks that the image is not as good as the DJI

That's Kai's own Fiat 500 in the UK.

I bought Dji no regrets the photos and videos are amazing high quality

I have both "Action cams" now and the image quality in good light appears better and with better dynamic range in my GP 12 on my monitor, and that's w/ almost all modes. They are both good cams though for what they are...

As a company, DJI is a better tech company than gopro. DJI enter this category will definitely push gopro to work harder. Next gen action camera will be really good for consumers for sure.

Hi Kai. I'm a big fan. I'm planning on upgrading from a hero 10 (over heating issue and poor battery performance). Having a subscription, I can purchase a hero 12 for $299 or switch to OA4 for $399. I have the gopro media mod. What do u think?

9:09 i've kind of heard that the so-called overheating issue with Action 4 is due to the European heating regulations. never happened to action 4 in USA so far.

I think the claims of overheating being an issue are overblown for both cameras but I agree that his results may be the result of something specific to Europe because dozens of other reviews online (majority from the US) indicate despite GoPro improving the time to overheating, the Action 4 has consistently lasted longer at the same frame rates... this one review is the opposite?

The dji has a surprising good image and even the audio is ok

The reason the dji was never an option was the lack of gps....now GoPro did this.....

Sold my 11, got the 12 purily for tge LOG feature, which only found it to be worthless as they capt it to 400 iso, way too underexposed, the HDR cant do flat and worsed of all 4:3 caps at 2.7k wereas the go pro 11 is 4k.. and all slow mo on 16:9 which is annoying, 4:3 and 8:7 is better... This year is a cash grabber fad, hopfully next year they will finally sortout low light issues! DJI sensor better last year and this year.. GO PRO! STOP SITTING ON YOUR HANDS!

I agree. I have the hero 12, and the color and detail is great. I think it looks better than the action 4, but tastes vary.

I see that your car's sat nav only shows red light districts.

u never have good weather in your vids :)

For me in Florida the GoPro wins massively for not overheating as easily. That's a big enough problem that it's vastly more important than anything else.

I dive in Florida and there is no better diving camera than DJI osmo4 I think you should thank DJI that your gopro only costs $400 and not $500. If you lose a video on GoPro a few times, you will lose the desire to use GoPro, unless they got down to business and finally did something. Let's remember that competition is good for us as customers.

It would be nice to hear someone say that the stabilisation of Action 4 sucks too. Check at 2:10 I almost get motion sick watching at Action 4

Competition works to our advantage gopro no longer costs £500 but £400 which is the reason for this😂😂😂 They made a lot of money by not investing in innovations for so many years.

GoPro is screwed, literary ! 😁 In car shots always look very weird filmed with GoPro, since they tend to steer the image a lot.

Thank you for shooting most of your footage in professional corrected rectilinear mode (de-warp, linear) instead of warped to shit like the other clown reviewers.

Inside the car filming yourself the stabilization makes no sense.

Made it to 2:10 - Why all the reviewers say stabilization is great on both cameras? Action 4 is wobbly and jittering, it's all over the place. Action cam should have great stabilisation for action things not just for walking around vlogging.

I have a dji pocket 2 and a gopro 10. I like the quality and features of the pocket, but the handle module overheats. The gopro also overheats and freezes (touch screen stops working) in summer heat. Gopro seems unbeatable for ease of use. I also have an insta 360 go2, but build quality is poor and the mic broke. Gopro stabe is amazing. Sean from Naples, Italy

What nobody is talking about is data rates. My Hero 11 (basically same as Hero 12) gives me about 150mbps over about 90mbps on the DJI. I find that colours crush much easier on my DJI and attribute it to the data rates but maybe im wrong about that. I do prefer to user interface and frame rate options on the DJI though. It's both more simple and gives more shooting options at the same time, but it's swings and roundabouts because in a social media age that 8:7 aspect is pretty handy when you don't know if you want landscape or portrait or both......

Hi, thanks for the interesting and useful comparison video. Overheating is quite a pain in the butt if you need to record some longer videos. I make walking videos and I was looking for a good option. Dji looked good, but according to the video, the recording time is not that great. So maybe better to use other devices? Like maybe the Sony Zv-1, or a phone like Samsung or Iphone for longer videos? Any advice? Thanks!

Would be nice to put these to some tests to see how tough they still are! On that note, I think an update to the old "DSLR durability test" of the DRTV days is way overdue :D. I'd really be curious to see how the modern day mirrorless camera holds up to the kind of abuse those poor cameras got in the past. Perhaps the YT landscape has changed meanwhile but I still believe there are enough followers waiting for you and Lok to fill back the content gap that you've both dug up and then left open after leaving DRTV.
