I know the sound can be quite foreign to some and perhaps even strange, but to indigenous people, it's like a warm blanket. It's great to hear our amazing Cree friends singing! Respect from a Tuscarora!

The style is called "Pow-wow Stomp" or "Pow-wow Step". DJ Shub did a song w. Snotty Nose Rez Kids, I *think* you've checked it out (War Club).

It's so much fun!!! I love going to Pow Wows !!! I'm adopted Oklahoma Apache and Comanche. Awesome music. My mom and I used to go to the Comanche Indian School in Lawton Oklahoma where we would watch handgames with the Cree. The Cree would come down on a bus from where they were from. Good days. Fond memories. They did play drums at the handgames, too.

Some have already suggested A Tribe Called Red (now known as The Halluci-nation); I will further pinpoint a recommendation for reaction: R.E.D., featuring an artist with whom you may be familiar: Yaasin Bey...formerly known as Mos Def. Absolutely has lyrics, absolutely spits bars, and absolutely incredible.

The traditional Secwepemc were semi-nomadic. In the winter, they lived in warm, semi-underground “pit-houses” and during the summer, they lived in mat lodges made from reeds. The traditional Shuswap economy was based on fishing, hunting, and trading. Their diet consisted of fish, meat, berries and roots.

Now I need to look up DJ Shub. Growing up in rural and with my mom teaching at a school that had a high native population... I got a good exposure to the culture and it's always intrigued me. I absolutely LOVE how he used the native music as a basis for this. The fancy dancers are always fun to watch, and it's cool to see the different styles of the different tribes. **EDIT** I just checked out his video 'Calling all Dancers' Even if you don't react to it... it's FIRE.

Did you know there's a movie called Rumble: the natives that rocked the world. In it it talks about how native slaves were also placed on plantations. Where our ancestors bred with your ancestors. Which where most African American or afro Canadian people are "part" native. But we see it as if you have a drop of native blood in you, you are native. (What's up cousin!) Anyways, people such as Jimi hendrix was part Cherokee. But the record labels and others told jimi never to speak about that side of his family. Because nobody likes natives. And being native is bad for business. There were many others I can't name because I haven't seen it in awhile. But I suggest you check it out. 👍🏿✊🏿
