The old school beats made with drum machines and built in samplers, 4 track recorders, etc naturally sound fatter, hit harder, and sound grittier without the over-compressed production methods of today on computer desktop software. Plus it took more talent and creativity to make beats with the analogue equipment there was only so much memory and space available to work with. One thing that DJ Paul did that none of his wannabes can do is he was a master of mixing two, three, or even more melody samples together on a track to come up with his own creation and this song is a good example there’s at least 3 different ones he mixed together to make his own thing. Today these people just cut off a single 1-2 bar sample and repeat it for the whole track with no variation. Which = weak, lazy, and talentless imho. Same for their sample selections, they do not have the ear for samples like DJ Paul, and many east coast producers from the 90s.
