History of the Electro genre:
The genre of Electro emerged in the mid-1980s, at a time when electronic music was rapidly evolving. Electro was heavily influenced by the earlier genre of funk and was characterized by its use of synthesizers and drum machines. To create this genre, the Roland TR-808 was commonly used to set the beat.
One of the key figures in the development of Electro was Afrika Bambaataa, a hip-hop DJ and producer from New York City. Bambaataa was a pioneer of the Electro sound, blending elements of funk, soul, and disco with electronic beats and futuristic sound effects.
The Electro style features a broken beat, with numerous labels and musicians creating compositions in this genre. However, the style tends to remain underground for the most part.
It is common to dance the old Robot dance and other forms of Breakdancing to Electro music. Electric Boogie is a dance style that originated in the United States in the 1970s. It evolved from other funk and disco dance styles of that era, such as the Locking and Popping styles.
In the 1990s, the Electro genre became firmly rooted in techno dance floors, becoming a complementary style. Techno DJs often played Electro with its broken beat. The style became very popular at raves, and it remains one of the few genres that has a certain stability and a dedicated fan base. This music rarely made it into the mainstream charts, but it never completely disappeared from public attention.
