In the original context of what a producer, he is. Khaled was a DJ in New Orleans and Florida, he was a beatmaker also. He is a producer and an A&R at the end of the day when it comes to his projects.

When people say *DJ Khaled* is not a Producer or doesn't do anything creative are clearly clueless what a *Record Producer* is and what they actually do. He was directing the session telling the Artist how he want them to sing a certain way esp the African guy that was recording the parts. That's what a real Producer does that calls the shots which is no different than what *Quincy Jones* and *Dr. Dre* did. *Diddy Combs* does the same thing too. Making beats is not a requirement to being a Producer because Music Producers come all different backgrounds as some are more hands off while are more hands on. Some act and fulfill the role as an Engineer, some act as Arrangers, Conductors, some act as Songwriters etc. But no matter of the genre, the main role and primary objective of a Music Producer is to get the song from A to Z that brings everything together to be delivered as the finished product. A real Producer sees a song from its initial concept to its final mix.

Hold up hold up hold up...yes, producing comes in all different forms. For example, Whitney Houston didn't produce any of her music but because she was the one coming up with the vocal ideas. She became a vocal producer on her album. Now when it comes dj Khaled, Quincey Jones and Dr. Dre! Dj Khaled can't be put in the same box as those mean because Quincey and dr.dre actually prouduce their music. Even when they brought in other musician to either come up with a part or fellow their direction. They had more involvement in the Creation of the music then dj Khaled has in if he gets the song already producer before he add the vocal arrangements on them. Plus remember that Quincy Jones and Dr Dre came out in a time where we actually had to violinist come into record a part and had to work for hours to get a sample right! Dj Khaled didn't even get started until 2006! (2006) you can't compare him to black legends that still to this day has cultivated a landscape of musical excellence! (You can't compare where you can't compete) and this isn't an attack on you but not on my watch! Ps. (I left Diddy out of the conversation because yes did actually prouduce his but he's more known for running bad boy then his actual proudcing skills)!

@@jeremiahborders2959 Bro. A Producer is the person that's in charge of the overal direction and vision of a song. You simply just don't get it. You don't have to compose anything. Producers in Rock, Metal and County doesn't compose or arrange any of the music. They direct the musicians that calls the shots. Most of them these days wears both the Producer and Engineers hat. A beat Maker is what you call a *Programmer* which is the formal term used through the 80s and 90s.

@@ra6od92 The main role of a Record Producer still remains the same still to this day. The tools and technology has changed as Producers these days are wearing more hats as multifaceted Producers. Many do still write out the charts and conduct the orchestra such as *Ron Fair* as one of the oldest Producers in the music industry that just recently produce a record for Keisha Cole. He produced the record and wrote and conducted the live strings. Hes the same guy that produced and wrote the string arrangments for The Black Eyed Peas Where is The Love and Mary J. Blige - Be Without You. It really depends on what genre you are working in.

@@ra6od92 DJ Khalid is a Record Producer. That's what real Producers do thay directs the session. A Producer is like a movie director. An Executive Producer is some one that oversees the recording budget and secures the funds for the album project. They rarely work in the control room as they are business savvy people. Record Producer's and Engineers generally work along side each other in the control room behind the console. But the Producer can act as the Engineer as well which is more common these days with shrinking recording budgets to keep cost down instead of hiring a separate recording Engineer. I wear both the Producer and Engineers hat myself when working with my own clients. So does Oak Felder. I don't make beats half time as many times I would act as the Vocal Producer and some times do additional arranging.

I guess he using the old way of studio speak. 'Producers' are there to facilitate the artist in the making of the song/record. It's about being the middle man between the engineer and the artist. A professional critical ear. If that means involving other artists in providing some instrumentation or vocals then that's what he does. What he actually does and what he thinks he does are two separate things. Yes he is a producer but not in the way all the new kids word it.

  • @jnsaudio81

@@chrisreid2113 spot on description. Producer producers like Bob Rock, butch vig, Ryan tedder... those who try to help the artist realize their vision. Today people think its making beats. Which is producing material but different. Seems to me like Khalid isn't either, but more of a business man/uber fan who picks what he likes and thats about it. Smart business but he isn't going to ever been seen in the light of what real producers are.
