To go back to the 90s for just 1 last warehouse party here in Brooklyn,With 2-3 rooms with a DnB,trance, house room would be Soooo Fun!! We still have some now that covid is laxed, but the newbies don't understand the music of the old school scene and Original DJs!! At 48, I will frequent a Good lineup party, and do hit a festival here and there,Especially since I got my 22 yr.old son into different genres of music!! #PLUR ☝️♥️

As a junglist I did not like the progression of drum & bass losing the chopped up breaks but I cannot deny that from '96 to '98 drum & bass had a real class. Today's version does not deserve the title. Respect to all the ravers hold tight

I don't know that it totally lost the chopped up drum rolls or weird time signatures, it's a bit more stable rhythmically speaking, and the bass and melodies become increasingly synthetic

If you really believe this then you clearly stopped digging through the crates and keeping up with the underground sound. The breakage never stopped but a lot of big names followed the trends of the scene. Plenty of lesser named labels didn't. Ragga and Jungle never stopped. It just went further underground. Hell you have labels like Scientific Wax for drumfunk/breakage. Metalheadz has never stopped making bangers.

yea...dnb. old skool jnglst would be 94-96. look at the grass roots of Moving Shadow and Liquid Sky and Suburban Bass for the melding of jungle and dnb. Frontline Records too. those labels definitely were the forefront of one sound coming from the other and you can almost hear it metorph from one record release to the next.

+Jayme Theis even earlier than that bro 😊 jungle was emerging around the middle of '92 hardcore in the form of still somewhat light hearted pianos but now being accompanied by amens a lot more. The sound developed into the darker side as a fresh area away from all the light hearted stuff by late '92 and '93 saw the most dark n obscure releases by the masses, some still breakbeats but a lot of amens. Now I read in a book published by Brian Belle Fortune that the crucial split from jungle to drum & bass came in '94 when more ragga samples were being used, not to the taste of everyone. Nights with ragga influenced tunes were advertised as jungle and nights representing the fresh emerging 'intelligent' sound as it was called which involved atmospheres and various shades of dark n light was called drum & bass 😊 it was still chopped up breakbeat driven but as u said with hearing the labels morphasise u can clearly hear by late '95 into '96 the chopped up breaks being dropped for that roll

+Jayme Theis the kick snare pattern bass driven minus all the choppage clearly defines drum & bass from jungle now 😊 the book if you want to check it out is called ' All Crews : Journeys through Jungle/Drum and Bass Culture '. It's a fascinating read written over the course of his involvement in the scene in the 'golden era' of rave. This guy knows what he's onabout, he starts the story early in rave life talking about the acid house days and dosnt miss any transformation in between 😊

+TheUKGDani yea you got it! i was giving the shortest dumbed down version i could hah I've got some jungle on vinyl dating back to late 92 and early 93 that still has the happy hardcore/hardcore/old skool vibe. ragga is really the only style i never fully sank into. also i never play(ed) much jump up at clubs but loved getting down on some odi, hype, freaky flow, ming + fs, ganja kru. jnglst for life. 20 years of love!

I was watching a Michael Franzese video, where he talked about the 1997 Gotti movie starring Armand Assante, and since Michael loved it so much I decided to watch it myself. I found a bunch of uploads of it on youtube, and when I heard the opening monologue I thought I recognized some of it, but I could not remember from what. After thinking about it a whole damn day, I finally remembered it was in a 1990s D&B set, used as a sample. I could not remember what song nor whose set it was, so I just looked up DJ Dara as a shot int he dark as I listened to his stuff, and especially this mix all the damn time back in the day. I found it, what you quoted int he second song, and the mystery was solved. Good shit. It makes me like the song a lot more now that I know where the sample came from.
