My advice for those planning weddings is not to worry about needing all the details and decor. Just make it look nice enough. I have been to soooo many weddings and they all start to blur. Even the ones that had it all compared to the ones that didn’t. All the guests really remember is the food, the feeling and the good times. Don’t spend alllllll your money. Just focus on having the best time with your favourite people.

Kind of adding to your advice, the most important thing is for couples to focus on what they want out of the day & what’s important to them… I see too many couples worrying about what the guests want or will think but at the end of the day the guests probably won’t notice or even remember the small details!

Its true! The food and music are always more commented on! If everyone is having a good time and not starving, they will love the wedding, so dont stress too much on decor

I had so many plans for my own wedding, diff activity tables, special decor features, flower arrangements etc, but after throwing my sisters wedding where legit all people cared abt was food, I scrapped all my plans and will be going with basic decor so it just looks "presentable". Scrapping all the rest. No guest book, fancy seating arrangements chart, no individual printed menus or fancy table place cards, no activity tables lol. I know my family will just be happy to celebrate the day with us with some good food. 😂

So true. Nobody cares as long as they have a good time. My 2 favourite weddings I've been to were actually the mist basic. 1 was a cowboy wedding in a diner with red paper napkins. There was a fun dance party at the end where the cousin was DJing and it was so much fun. Everyone got really drunk and we all have fond memories. Second was a covid wedding, where only the friend circle and parents were invited. We all waited outside for them to get married and when they came out we threw flower petals at them and had drinks and takeaway pizza on the public square. It was the first time we were all seeing each other after the 2020 confinement and it was so nice despite being so simple.

As a wedding and event florist, I get that it can get expensive really quickly. That arch is a great idea! However, I would suggest only using it indoors and with weights (fabric can easily hide these). It looks like it can be easily tipped over. And it will not hold the weight of fresh flowers unless they are placed in containers at the bottom, so if you are using a florist, give them a heads up! But it's a great way to get a lux look on the cheap!

The guest book seating chart is amazing. If I were to do this, I would make 1 small change. Make the backing piece a little longer with the name(s) at the bottom so when the photo is placed you can still see their names. This would be handy if there are guests that don't know other people's names. Alternatively, there could be a marker so they can write their name on the photo and maybe leave a comment :)

As someone who used to work in a function room and served many weddings - don't do wedding favours for guests to take home. 90% of the items from each wedding got left at the venue and we had to chuck them out. The only two that I saw work were a bottle of hand sanitizer for a Covid wedding, and a pick your own sweets station where guests could make up their own party favours with the sweets they liked. But even the sweets buffet had lots of leftovers.

I actually made program fans for my wedding a few years ago. Because it was summer, the ceremony venue was an old church so it had no A/C and the reception venue, we did it in the old schoolhouse's front yard so they all were used and went home with people lol

My 100-person wedding was about 2 weeks ago and I'm still tired from all the DIY's I did. My wedding party and I DIY'ed over 3 days: a floral moongate backdrop, 12 floral centerpieces, 8 bouquets, 7 boutonnieres, 120 cookie favors, 7 ceremony/reception signs, and ceremony programs. Almost did a DIY photobooth too, but at that point it was too much to take on. Our guest book had a DIY theme: a blank scrap book and markers, Instax, stickers (I also made a few using sticker paper and inkjet printer), and washi tape for guests to decorate the pages. Pro tip for the DIY bride & groom: give yourself more time than you think you need!

As a wedding and event florist... props to you for taking on your florals! It's a lot of work that has to be done so close to wedding day. I always suggest people DIY in other areas of their wedding that can be done way in advance. All the last minute stuff like catering, flowers, etc... are a big undertaking. I hope everything turned out beautifully 💕

  • @theseamonstersknit

    @theseamonstersknit

@@arbella89 Thank you! Everything turned out well. We did fake florals on the moongate, which was perfect for transportation and setup. We had a lot of people come over to help with centerpieces. Me and my girlfriend had taken a class in floral arranging, which helped a lot! It was challenging, but all of our flowers survived, including the bouquets that we repurposed for centerpieces.

@Karla britfeld Probably! But so far, don't regret it. I had about 10 years worth of ideas rattling in my head, which in the end was too hard to get rid of. I do DIYs because I enjoy them. If I forgot to mention it, I did have a huge amount of help from my wedding party during the week. Some people baked, others arranged flowers, others ran errands for us. If I did make it sound like it was the work of one person, but it wasn't.

I loved this video very much! What a fun seating chart! However, as an eco florist, I need to say that flower foam is very, very polluting & rather not be used. In this diy you could, for example, opt for chicken wire + zip ties ☺️👌

I love the simplistic arch but as a wedding florist there is no way real arrangements could hang on it. If you plan on recreating this, stick to fresh flowers at the base and using silk flowers to cover the arch. I’ve seen lots of homemade arbors fall over, just something to consider.

for the backdrop arch, you should get a thicker dowel than the pex pipe. They sell tools to expand the pex pipe and then over time the pipe goes back to its original state so it fits REALLY well. That’s why it’s used for plumbing bc it tightens so well, there are no leaks.

Former wedding pro here (florist, planner, and maany times bridesmaid). For the faux flowers at the base of the arch, I'd recommend chicken wire instead of floral foam, it's easier to cover with fewer stems. Also with either stabilizer I'd do the floral arranging itself ahead of time and just assemble on site. Making a floral arrangement look the way you want can take a lot of time, which isn't something in abundance on your wedding day! The arch itself is *inspired*, I love that flexible pipe! Nicely done Becky!

Advice for your future thrift store frame dissections from a former custom framer- the best way to get out those little metal "framers points" (or fancy staples as Becky called them 😂) holding everything in under that paper- wire cutters. They grip on really well and make it super easy to pull them out!

For the napkin arrangement, I really loved the dried flowers and the blush bow, but if you have over a hundred guests, that’s a lot of menus to cut out by hand. You could use a cricket, or just buy the menu paper cut to size already.
