Just found your video right now searching for DIY videos making speaker stands. So far your design is the best one that I could find and there are a lot out there. My stands need to raise my speakers 36"s, and since I have grand kids running around who have already knocked over the cheap speaker stands that I got from Amazon, the stands that I am going to build will need to have some weight at the bottom so they don't easily topple over. Going to use your design but I will be making a box on top of your bottom foundation. The box will be hollow and I am going to put some lead weight in it and bolt it down and then finish it with the rest of your design. And I will probably stain the wood instead of painting it. But I will paint the pipe black and will look good against the wood grain. Thanks again for a great DIY video!!

Thanks for the idea, it surely does beat paying $$$ for a pair of speaker stands!

I just made some cheap small stands for my old Alesis monitors, limited space, desktop, I wanted to get them to ear level, it was pissing me off. I got four plinths from Home Depot, some glue I already had here, stick on bumpers, and that was it, speaker stands. They do need staining, though. But they were the perfect size for the Alesis. They definitely sound less boomy and sound truer than they did without them. I'd rather have a shop and be able to make stuff like this, though, but I don't because I'm living in a stupid apartment.

Cheers Olly, thanks for the comment. I loved those shoes too, alas they finally gave up the ghost (er Soul?...wait...Sole?) after all the abuse.

Hii! How did you attach the wood to each other on the bottom part of the stand?

Wood glue would be the most sensible thing to use. Once cured, the bond will have been stronger than the wood itself.

The subwoofer? I would not recommend putting it on a stand. You won't gain any bass, and you'll probably get some vibration.

Bass is omnidirectional, meaning that because of its large wavelength and low frequency, the sound travels well in all directions. Placement of the sub isn't as crucial as any other component. If your sub sits directly on carpet, try using some carpet spikes to raise it slightly and prevent it from directly transferring the vibrations. The wireless subwoofers that come with most soundbar setups are not extremely powerful, so you'll most likely be limited by the actual output of the sub itself.

Any issues with vibrations while the speakers are working?

+abc140290 None that I've experienced so far. I took it easy on them for a day (some folks believe in speaker break-in, others don't. I figure it can't hurt)...but in the last day I've watched like 3 movies and a bunch of TV on them at home-theater volume's and have been very pleased. I haven't put on any bass-heavy music for a prolonged period though. If I do notice anything that comes up, I'll cut a size-appropriate square of high density silicon matte and slide it under the speaker. The felt feet eliminate any vibration or hum from the contact between the stand and the floor, and I'm sure on carpet it wouldn't be an issue. Cheers.
