DIY Wood Cooler Project Perfect for Beers and Barbecues Made Quick and Easy

Here's how I made a DIY wood cooler project. This is the first time I've ever built anything where everything is brand new. From the cooler to the hardware, every part was considered carefully. Special thanks to my wife, Ange, whose impeccable taste cannot be denied. She pretty much decided on the color, finish and all the other little details that make this wood cooler, epic. I just built it (check out DIY Pete's build which inspired this one). Links to the hardware items below:

    Wwwooowww, que bonito video y trabajo, me gustó mucho los detalles. Eso la hace muy especial. Pero, también te felicito por enseñar a tu hijo el oficio, se ve que te va a quitar los trabajos. Es un niño muy inteligente, Dios los bendiga a todos. Saludos desde El Paso Tx. Tu amigo, José Gutiérrez

    Yes, I've heard of the disdain for pocket holes by purists and true woodworkers both of which I am obviously not. I'm just a Dad trying to better enjoy some cold ones... so this is a true compliment, thank you very much. Appreciate it.

    Thanks. I got the black valve and the rest of the hardware from a local online seller (like Amazon for the rest of the world). I guess that's why the links aren't working for you because the links direct to the Philippines site.

    This looks awesome, just wanted to ask if you were using actual pocket screws or regular screws?

  • @VincheroKarpintero

    @VincheroKarpintero

    3 жыл бұрын

    I've used both before. I think for this project I used actual pocket screws but I can't be certain. Having said this, as long as you glue them together, the screws really just hold the work together while the glue dries.

    started building my cooler today, what did you rip your top trim at in step 7

  • @VincheroKarpintero

    @VincheroKarpintero

    4 жыл бұрын

    I used 2×4s split into strips so the trim would've been maybe 3/8in thick by 3.5in wide.

    I don't have the shopping list but I may have the plans somewhere. Send me an email and maybe I can send you the file when I find it. And yes, this was made with 2x4s and 2x6s but would probably go a lot faster if you also got a few 1x4s for the top.

    Vinchero great build! I just finished mine but I'm stumped on the plumbing fittings. Ferguson or Ace do not seem to have what I'm looking for. Would you mind giving the "names" of the fittings and their dimensions?

  • @VincheroKarpintero

    @VincheroKarpintero

    You are referring to the blue plumbing fittings right? I used two 3/4" threaded couplings and about 4 inches of 3/4" pvc pipe. I sanded down the outside of the couplings until it fit into the cooler drain opening and the wood frame.

    Una pregunta estas usando los 2x4 y 2x6 de pino los que se usan en construccion es que ayer fui a menards a comprar la madera y el señor me pregunto para que la queria y le enseñe tu video y me dijo que esa madera se iba a doblar y a pudrir con la lluvia y humedad pero le dije que le iba a poner el stain especial para exterior y aparte el polietileno para exterior tambien y aparte la iba a cubrir con su manta y pues me recomendo que no y pues se me hizo raro y no compre nada por las dudas si es asi que son de pino las que tu usaste en construccion los stud pues la voy hacer espero respuesta gracias

    Yes, I used pine wood for this project. Because you will seal the wood and cover it with a tarp when not in use, I think you will be fine. Sí, usé madera de pino para este proyecto. Debido a que sellará la madera y la cubrirá con una lona cuando no esté en uso, creo que estará bien.
