❣DIY Whimsy Fairy House Lamp Using Coke Plastic Bottles❣

Hello, in this tutorial I show you how I made a whimsy fairy house lamp using two coke plastic bottles, tin foil, paint, hot glue and paper clay. This is a great way to teach children about recycling and also stimulate their creativity and imagination.
I first cut the large bottle in three pieces. I glue the top and bottom pieces to the small 0,5 l bottle. I place the small bottle a little higher so it looks like a little tower. I cut the leftover cylinder plastic in two smaller pieces and glue them in the front and in the back of the house. Next step is to build the rest of the house using tin foil and hot glue. This is a fast way to achieve a basic volume that will be the base for our paper clay. Using tin foil I built the roof cones, the chimneys the door arch and the flat roof above the entrance. You should now have the general shape of your fairy house. Cover everything with paper clay. You can work in one layer or, if you are a beginner you should work in two layers, one for covering the surface and the second one for the details like windows, door, wood texture, bark, mushrooms, door steps, curly roofs. When making the windows keep in mind it will be a lamp so you should draw as many windows as you can so the light will come out nicely. After the paper clay is dry you can easily add more details using tin foil and hot glue, like I did for some of the windows. The roof tiles should be placed starting from the bottom of the roof and working your way up. Let everything dry. I used watercolors and acrylic paint for painting because I like working in layers and be able to change if I don't like the way it looks. In the end you can seal the paint using some matte spray varnish. I placed some battery LED lights under the house. I recommend you use soft lights that will gently illuminate your windows so it looks like a real house. DON'T USE HOT LIGHTS!

Frequently Asked Questions: 1. What clay do you use? I use a paper clay. I either buy it or make my own depending on what I want to create 2. What's the difference between the bought paper clay ( amzn.to/2r5FEHY ) and the homemade paper clay (A) kzread.info/dash/bejne/fp-Nqch7qsKzhLg.html (B) kzread.info/dash/bejne/kXmaj7dvkb2rn6w.html ? The homemade one is not that soft and is only good for textured surfaces like stones and tree bark. It is very cheap to make so it might worth to sand it and work it a little more than buying a paper clay. However, you can't keep it more than 5 to 7 days in the fridge. It has the best consistency when you just made it and it's fresh, so I would recommend you use it in the same day or the next and don't make more than you need 3. Can I use air dry clay? What's the difference between air dry clay and paper clay? Often times shops will sell both paper clay and ceramic clay with the same label "air dry clay". It's true, both are air hardening but there are quite a few differences: air dry clay(ceramic clay) is actually mud, natural clay, while paper clay is made with cellulose and other ingredients. Paper clay is stronger than air dry clay(ceramic clay). Air dry clay (ceramic clay) shrinks and the paper clay does not shrink. This is why paper clay is the better choice for my kind of projects. My projects usually require you to cover a jar or a plastic bottle. If the air dry clay shrinks and the bottle or jar remain the same size... you guessed it... your air dry clay will crack all around. It might be a lot cheaper but it's not what you need for these projects. 4. My clay cracks, how do you cover the cracks? You don't, you change your air dry clay to a paper clay! See why at the previous question 5. How to waterproof my paper clay creations? I recommend using a yacht varnish. Apply a few coats and make sure you cover it all around so no water touches your clay 6. What brand of paper clay do you use? I use "Das modelling material" - amzn.to/2r5FEHY 7. maricel zarate se puede usar cualquier pasta , porcelana fría , masa das , incluso más arriba hay alguien que puso una masa con papel higiénico

Imagination is basically free roaming. I'm pushing 70 now, and this sort of creativity has been in play since I was a kid. You can draw inspiration from everywhere. Other artists, nature, neighborhoods, down town, even book covers, comic books, books or magazines. I take my creativity were I find it and have a lot of fun doing it. I hope this helps.

ESPAÑOL (Google Translate) Para hacer la arcilla he usado un rollo de papel higiénico que pesa alrededor de 40 gramos sin el tubo, 100 gramos de harina de uso múltiple, 100 gramos de maicena, 150 gramos de pegamento escolar, 250 gramos de compuesto para juntas/masilla de pared/enlucido de yeso (seco - revoque hecho con yeso (sulfato de calcio hidratado) para dar terminaciones a los paramentos (walls). Se hace sobre el revoque fino.) y 40 gramos de Aceite de bebé o aceite de oliva. Comience por colocar el papel higiénico en agua tibia por lo que se desintegra más fácil. Apriete el exceso de agua y comience a agregar los otros ingredientes. Agregué el pegamento primero, después agregué el compuesto común, la harina, el aceite y el almidón de maíz. Puede agregar agua al mezclar si siente que la arcilla de papel está demasiado seca.

Hola, ella usa "paper clay" en espanol creo que la traduccion seria masilla de papel....ella da estos enlaces como hacer esa masilla al estilo casero... Pero el resultado es espectacular...pienso hacerle uno a cada una de mis nietas para decorar sus habitaciones. y disculpa por mi espanol que no es 100%.

Hi, were did you use the acrylic paint and watercolors? Is the roof acrylic? Can acrylic paint be corrected? I have made a small house and used watercolor paint only, but it seemed a little fainted, not bright colors. Tks
