I can't say for sure without being there but the knuckle appears to be cast steel not cast iron. The sparks appear consistent with steep not cast iron they are bright orange and fly relatively far before splitting. Cast steel is more forgiving than cast iron and using standard filler wire can be preferable to using a nickle rod in this welding application. Another way to identify it as cast steel instead of cast iron is by looking at the shavings that came out of the hole when you drilled out your bolt hole. Cast iron will make really short chips and steel will be slightly longer and more stringy. The finished product looks great.

progress is progress. I got my 8.25 and 4 link finished in the ZJ the day it started snowing a few weeks ago. survived snowpocalypse so far. finally got some videos put up. not very good quality though, still learning that part.

Those are some real good welds to the cast knuckles! I look forward to seeing the finished product to this build. Keep up the work man 👍🏻

Those holes that you covered that you thought was abs is not that is vacuum ports for you auto locks on your hubs if your building a crawler or anything from stock some people put grease ports in them to grease the inner spindle bearing an run mile marker locking hubs to do away with vacuum problems with the axle

looks likes a nice kit and good install

Kind of ironic the company is called beyond precise but there are so many adjustments need to be made or gaps. Precision is within .0001" haha.

Dude get u a reg oven like in your kitchen. Use it for this type of stuff, small parts such as this makes it easy to control the ramp down on cast stuff.

@@MuddyBeards4X4 lol, i wouldn't dare use mine this is why id look for a cheap one on Craigslist or one that was broken but fixable. I lucked out and a buddy was upgrading his oven, deal was i help him get old one out and new one in and i get the old one. Doubles for a powder coat oven too. This also works great for anything steel or aluminum. I take all my steel stuff to 500, aluminum i wont go above 350, transformation range is usually around 930 or so for aluminum, but depending on its prior heat treat could temper it some. When i do cast, i get it up to temp, use regular er70 wire and ramp the temps down, 500-400-300-200 then off until its room temp. Never had a weld crack.

I for some reason am just terrible at Flux welding. Not sure why and I haven't even tried it in years, but I have heard it's a good process to use on cast

With flux it likes pulled. I was told if there is slag drag lol that helped me learn. I ran alot of dual shield flux 1/16th wire in the coal mines

Best way to cool it is to drop it on ice water! Just kidding DONT DO THAT! Really the best way to cool is to pack in hot sand and let it cool over a long period of time! It looks good though!🤘🏻

Your drag link connecting position on the knuckle is determined by your pitman arm length. If they don’t match pretty close your steering ratio will be very strange. I found that out the hard way. 🤪

w250 should be kingpin. all you need to do is bolt the high steer arms on. different process than a balljoint setup.

@@18georgedavis kingpin spindles are totally different. The upper bushing/spring block comes off and is replaced by bolt on high steer arms. Super cheap and no welding. I rec using bronze bushings during the conversion.

No need. The WJ knuckles are already cross over configuration and you can mount the links to the top of the mounting surfaces and its basically a high steer. I had WJ knuckles on my XJ dana 30 and I did that. I made a video about it as well

Looks like an exact rip off of Jesse Haines high steer kit. Hate to see a man’s ingenuity and hard work ripped off like that.
