This is a great addition to any patio, lawn, or business front and can be made simply in a matter of hours! Add additional beauty to your water feature by adding plants and accent lights. My urn is about 23" wide and 31" tall, make sure the basin is wider to catch as much spill as possible.

    Gorgeous! I just made one a few days ago which is very similar to yours except I turned my pot upside down with the water flowing out the bottom (which turned it into the top) of the pot so the birds have plenty of area to sit and drink. It bubbles a few inches off the top and flows down the sides to give a lot of sound.

    Monsieur Fontaine, Beautiful creation and great how-to instructions. Just want to point out an important issue with water pumps. A couple of dire problems that can be avoided with burning them out is the water evaporating, This might be a no brainer, but what people don't realize is the fact that these motors use the water itself as a cooling mechanism. Once the water is gone, the motor will overheat and cease working. The second issue is dirt. If the motor get's choked with dirt and debris this to will burn it out. So, putting a layer of Dollar store plastic luffa scruby's,{the kind for cleaning dishes.} around the bottom followed with a topping layer of sponge sheeting material, {pond filtering} will prevent this from happening. This sponge layer can be easily removed & cleaned of all caught material, there by saving and extending the water pumps life.

  • @OutdoorInspirations

    @OutdoorInspirations

    Жыл бұрын

    Excellent info, good point about not allowing the basin to empty- have to check the water level regularly. I am going to try your filtering method-

    Remarkable! I've had all of the materials and supplies to create my fountain for almost 2yrs now, but I had a couple of other projects that I needed to do first and as fate would have it my big oak contracted something and started loosing leaves first then the limbs began falling indicating that it's dead at this point soooo, now I have to dig up all of my hostas and ferns, create a new place for them because they cannot tolerate being in the full Sun all day every day. I've had most of them for over 10 yrs. This will be the 3rd location for them in my yard. I believe instead of making a tight border I'm gonna give them much more space to grow bigger. They were really wanting to bust out last year . Aside from everything it will be even more beautiful than before it's just gonna take a little longer. BTW What are some hearty fast tall growing shade trees with beautiful canopies, low maintenance of course, for zone 8A?

    Sorry to hear about your big Oak 🌳I to have some mature Oaks that are slowly dying from insect damage long ago. I keep spraying and hoping 🤞So a nice sub which will grow faster is any good Red Maple variety- Red Sunset has amazing red Fall foliage! Good luck with the planting and update us on your water feature when completed!

  • @galady8632

    @galady8632

    Жыл бұрын

    Be careful where you plant fast growing trees. Since they are fast growing they have shallow roots. I am also in Area 8A. Strong winds can easily topple pine trees, red maples, etc. Although palm trees also have shallow roots they do not tend to grow as tall as pine trees and the trunk usually will not grow much wider than the crown of the palm. I was surprised to see palm trees thrive in 8A. I appreciate the uniqueness of the palm trees. Of course if you are seeking shade it's useless. When I was in high school we lived in a newly built house with 23 mature pine trees. They were tall and few branches were visible below the peak of our roof. In just one strong storm (not a tornado although they are common here), the tops of 7 trees fell plus one tree trunk/top fell across the bedrooms and another on top of our cars. We had heard snapping and cracking all night, Mother and I were terrified. We eventually had every pine tree removed. It was expensive but necessary for us to feel comfortable and safe. When I purchased my second house it had 5 pine trees. Before I moved on-site every pine tree was removed and the stumps ground down as much as was possible.

    Show far up for the tubing go into the pvc? Any sealing around the clear tubing and pvc?

  • @OutdoorInspirations

    @OutdoorInspirations

    Жыл бұрын

    Ideally you want the clear tubing to fit snug up inside the pvc so no glue or sealant is necessary, using lubricant like veggie oil to help push it about 6 inches in or so. Smaller tubing would require a sealant around it to keep water pressure.

    Did the tubing from the pump slide over the pvc. You didn't show that part? Did it need a clamp? Also, for the side tubing to hold it straight was that just glued on there?

  • @OutdoorInspirations

    @OutdoorInspirations

    Жыл бұрын

    The pump tubing slides inside the main pvc pipe. Choose a tubing size that fits perfectly inside so its snug and will not require glue or silicon. Slides in the pvc about 6 inches or so- you can use veggie oil to help it. As far as the pvc pipe it stays rigid due to the lock nut at the bottom- I had to add a brace half way up inside due it leaning a little. Hope that helps!

  • @OutdoorInspirations

    @OutdoorInspirations

    Жыл бұрын

    The side support I used a 14" piece of pvc to help pitch the main pipe- you could also choose to place some large river rocks to better center the top feed pipe. I plugged my pump into a nearby outlet- happened to by inside the garage. The basin hold all the water so I have to refill it as needed, usually top off the water every 2 weeks.

    Why does the inside black pipe have to be so tall and so visible? You just have to introduce water into the pot for it to overflow, right? If it's because of water pressure pushing against the pump, it's not going to be much 6" under the top surface.

  • @OutdoorInspirations

    @OutdoorInspirations

    Ай бұрын

    That is correct, you can make the pvc pipe any height to introduce the water inside- but the reason people extend these longer and just below waters edge is so it can create a nice bubbling affect atop the surface. In this follow up video I upgraded my pump to create more bubbling and cut in a ball valve so I could adjust the pressure kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5l72pOLqNu3l6Q.html

    This is not how you build a fountain in a giant pot like that. This is super dangerous to pets and wildlife, as they can fall into the pot and not be able to get out and eventually drown. They make and sell a second reservoir that is not as deep for the top of pots, or you can fill the majority of the pot with sand, rocks, or other materials to cut down on the amount of water used, and to provide a safe height for an animal to be able to crawl out. Please fix your design.
