DIY Vibratory Tumbler | Cleaning And Stonewash Finish On The Cheap!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A vibratory tumbler is very usesuf to clean or finish small parts with little effort.
Different media are used for different application like removing paint and rust or polishing metals.
Decided to make this one recycling a vibrating platform, very common "exercise" tool in the used market.
As I said in the video a bigger motor would have allowed to use heavier media, but for smaller works I still think it's very useful!
Plus it's super cheap to make! I spent only 20€ to make mine.

It was very interesting to see you testing different media. It turned out to be a very good, easy and cheap method to remove rust or paint. Think i need to build my own. You should test it wet aswell, add some water.

Don't need a gun shop, just need Amazon, www.amazon.com/Lyman-Cleaning-Treated-Tufnut-Container/dp/B000KOTXUO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1536981426&sr=8-2&keywords=lyman+walnut That's what I use in my brass tumbler for the initial clean. After I size, I then go clean the oils off with corn cob media and I get super shiny brass with nothing else added.

try mounting the motor vertically instead of horizontally . being mounted vertically will create much more spinning of the media . instead of the horizontally mounted motor , which creates more side to side movement :)

maybe if you get lucky you could use a front loading washer or dryer as a tumbler. They could certainly handle just about any media you could put in there. Plus they're sealed not exactly ideal for small things but if you had like an engine part or a vice or something like that you wanted to basically get a start on taking the paint off in a very gentle way they could probably do the job.

I have an observation. Those counterweights have grub screws on them. What would happen if you offset the counterweights 90 or 180 degrees from each other? Would the vibratory action be better for this application? I also heard that kitty litter works well for this type of low-power tumbler. ...And also what was that contraption originally designed for?? Some sort of foot... vibration device?

For steel you can crush up some flower pots. Softer metals you can probably use marble chips. But the amount of work involved...you might as well just buy one with the appropriate media.

The build was great i don't see any major problems, but you did one thing i think wrong that lets the bucket move too much and not use the vibrations of the motor properly, you only put one washer and nut at the top of the upsidedown funnel, if you cut a piece of wood 1/2 inche smaller than the inside of the funnels top edge and put that at the bottom of the bucket fasten that down tight to the base then fasten the funnel over that you will have more contact with the base and the motor vibration will be greater giving better flow of the aggregate, Really loving your channel 👍

Neat use of the wife's foot viberater, does she know? By the way if you don't need that large a pot to tumble in get one of the large plastic food storage bowls from your local wally world for cheap and use a smaller plastic funnel just like you did with that one, the cheap plastic bowl and funnel will last many years, mine is almost 30 years old, has an old photo copier open frame fan motor that was 20 years old when I built the tumbler. Still cleans parts and polishes rocks most every day.

I may have missed you saying this, but did you try using "Walnut Shells?" They're hard, hard enough to remove (& Re-use some times?) epoxy primers, acrylic paints, deeply pitted rust, many blemish's, & some slivers or burrs, when used within a Bench Mounted Sand Blaster, that's set at 80 to 100 psi.. PS. Also, the cost is fairly cheap if you buy the largest bag.
