    We found firenzecolor after using another brand on our first room.     We didn't do anything for the main inside hearth. We just plastered the extension outside of the fireplace. We left the inside as is.

    I believe we used 1/4” (don’t 100% remember) but you could use any size you’d want. Obviously the thicker you use the more solid the whole thing will feel.

    The plaster I use feels smooth and almost velvety. If you've felt a plaster wall before, it feels like that.

    Thanks! Everything has held up nicely. The only issue we had was one time a burning log fell on the ground plaster and it left a mark. We understood that the ground was probably going to get a bit scuffed up over time so this wasn't a big issue for us. Otherwise, it's been great!

    Hi there. Making one of these, thanks for the video. I got this cement board seam tape and it is difficult to bend around the corners. I don’t really see it in use on your build. Did you attach to all the seams? Was it during the feather finish coating? Thanks again!

    We used a mesh tape that we could bend around the corners. We installed that when we applied our feather finish coat. Hope this answers your question.

    This is what I've been searching for. I painted the old travertine tile fireplace white, but I wanted it to have a look like yours. Can I apply Marmorino KS to the painted travertine tile or anything else?

    You probably could apply it directly over but just make sure you first use some good primer. I’d recommend skim coating the whole thing with something else first so you don’t waste the expensive plaster smoothing it out.

    Thank you for the video, Quick question, when ordering the plaster, What shade of tint did you use and what are the differences? Light tint vs dark tint. Also is there a color you picked? thank you

    You're welcome! Glad you liked it. If you'd like to get your plaster matched to a color chip, they can do that for you. You would select the light or dark tint depending on your color chip you are matching and how light or dark it is. It's a little confusing if you don't already know so what I recommend you to do is to email them directly so they can set up an order for you. That way you know exactly what you need.     Wow looks awesome! We may try this out for our fireplace. What is the texture and feel of the fireplace? Does it feel like stone?

    Thanks! The fireplace texture is completely smooth but that will depend on how the plaster is applied and what type of material you are working with. Plaster will generally feel like stone because it has stone in it but when you touch the mantle you can tell it's not stone mainly because the structure is hallow. We are rarely ever touching our mantle so it's pretty easy to forget that it's not soild.

    It worked well for us just to go straight to the feather finish but you could totally use mortar if you wanted.

    What color did you have your plaster tinted? Is the untinted a brighter white?

    We got ours tinted to match Sherwin Williams Useful Gray (SW 7050). The un-tinted plaster is plain white. Not sure if theres any undertones or if it matches a color chip white but you could always ask.

    Love the project! Quick question: did you use gorilla glue and nails to attach the pieces of metal stud? In the video you mention using gorilla glue to get a flat surface, but you also mention nails. Thank you!

    Thanks! 🙌 Glad you liked it! We ended up using both gorilla glue and nails to attach the pieces. Essentially, we were trying to get it as flush as possible for the cement board to cover it. There might be a better way to connect the metal studs together but I wanted it flush. I think most people would use self-drilling screws to connect metal studs together.

    If I remember correctly it was the light tint charge. We got our plaster tinted to match Sherwin Williams Useful Gray (SW 7050) You can also email them directly and they will be able to tell you for sure.     I know you said that you bought 3kg of the plaster but did you use all of it? Online I only see the 1kg or 5kg option.

    If you have a specific amount you need, just email them and ask for that specific amount so you don't have to pay for extra. If I remember correctly, we had some plaster left over.

    I haven’t personally tried it but these plasters do say you can use outdoors. I believe you’d want to use a specific sealer for outdoors to help protect it better. Sorry, I don’t have much info on this. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Everything is holding up. No cracks. Our fireplce is wood burning so there’s some discoloration from pieces falling on the outside hearth.

    @@historychick8348 Wood shouldn't be within a certain distance of a fireplace opening. Long term exposure to heat lowers wood's combustion temperature, even if its not an issue now this could eventually cause a fire. Wood stoves will sometimes have exceptions that allow you to reduce clearances with approved heat shields, but open fireplaces have no such exception I'm aware of.

    I love what you guys did, but I do wish the parts of you talking were in a minimized video or just a voice over while the important how to part was maximized so that we could see better. I kept skipping to find the "start" before I realized that it was how you'd shown it.

    What is the difference in the feather finish and plaster finish?

    Feather finish is a cement based product. You could probably get a cool look out of it but for us, we wanted something that had a nicer finish and that’s why we top coated it with Venetian plaster. Hopefully that answers your question

    Hey, glad you are interested in this. Unfoturnalty, there's no other video. I really just made this more as an inspirational video on what you can do for a couple hundred dollars with the idea that people would take this and come up with their own idea. That being said, the way I made the angles was simply bridging the gap with metal studs. The best look at this starts at 7:17 in the video. Hope this helps.

    The angle isn't 45 since theres a slant involved. I'm not sure what the actual angle ended up being, but we just measured both the long edge and short edge and marked from there so it was exact.

    Yes, sealing your plaster is always recommended. Plaster is porous so it absorbs things so sealing it helps protect it!

    @@AlongForItAll also if after plaster has dried and you see uneven spots or skim lines should we do another coat in just that area or do we have to do another coat on the entire fireplace? I ask because I wasn’t sure if you go over ugly spot the second time would the fireplace now have darker areas. We only have 3 areas that need it which are more inner towards fire place because the tight corners. I’m using same color as you are so you think it will look darker if we do second coat in the areas or should we redo the entire fireplace…second coat

    @@lb4843 If you have uneven spots or lines, you'll want to either sand or fix them before you final coat. The look of Venetian plaster shows layers, so if you are unhappy with one layer, you'll probably want to fix it before moving on. Ideally, you'll do a full final coat covering everything, but it is possible to do just an area, but it is harder to get it to blend. Does this answer your question?

If you ever are looking to do more videos on plaster can you do a video on how to plaster small corners or narrow places. We did a fire place similar to yours but ours had a smaller plane for us to maneuver our skimmer. We did it in the end but weren’t sure how the professional do it.
