Here's a really unique and quite frankly, simple wood finishing technique called "Revealed Grain" You don't have to have perfect cuts, the mistakes are easily hidden and it makes ordinary pine look exotic!
The finish is essentially a Shou Sugi Ban variation. The I accidentally created the process (2015?) around the same time Chris of OG Woodreveal did. (check out my Instagram for a ton of examples of projects, theyre kinda buried so you'll need to scroll pretty far back) He as first but I never put the idea together, his style is a bit different than mine.
So anyways how did I accidentally create this?? I was attempting Shou Sugi Ban and dropped the wood and damaged the ash, so I decided to brush it off and start again. In doing so I exposed this crazy texture that reminded me of barn wood. Long story short I coined the term "grain extraction" then later changed it to "revealed grain" finally making my first crappy youtube video. A ton of people have since taken my process and created videos which is pretty awesome!
Unfortunately most of the videos leave out the real secret .. proper wood (Spruce) the softer and more white the pine the more effective the process.
