Exactly what I needed to see. Very thorough and I did not have to listen to unnecessary music. Thank you

Thanks Karen. Glad you think music is unnecessary cuz I go back and forth on weather or not to use it.
Enjoyed watching you during your video. Not sure I can attempt it myself.
Wow, you’ve just given me the confidence to try this myself.,Thank you ❤

You can do it Jane!!!
Years ago, I took an upholstery class and picked a wingback chair for my project. Midway through the class, I had surgery and wasn't allowed to lift more than 10 lbs-yatta yatta yatta. In short, I never finished the class and have struggled with this part of the process since then and haven't tried again, I have even given away two beautiful wingback chairs that I found on the cheap. Silly how we let the small things stop us from doing what we love.

My first upholstery project when I took my first upholstery class was a wing chair! with tufting! such a difficult place to start...but i guess it does cover all the basics i guess.😃

@@MimzyandCompany When I moved to Florida, I left a Vintage Gold Velvet Tufted Sofa (my next project, I thought) sitting in my living room. I hate to say this, but my upholstery class was full of ex-cons, and I was a little out of my comfort zone. I'm guessing it was a common profession to transition into, primarily for cars and boats.

@@kornerstonekreations that's funny! You're right though, automotive and boat upholstery is mostly men.
I love the way you are attentive to even very little details.... Thank you for this. my case is exactly like you said...I just found a 2nd hand sofa bed for my office and I'm definitely going to revamp it this way.
I hope you have more videos its big help for us as bigginers

My first ever upholstery project(other than dining chair seats) was a wing back chair. I used a beautiful velvet and it came out nice. But the chair was old and fell apart structurally, only lasted about 5 years. Good luck with your project.

thanks for these videos; you're cool. i bought a crazy-shaped chaise that i've been too scared to begin trying to reupholster for a year because it has a spiraling arm and a funky curved backrest. i feel like after a few more of your videos i'll actually kind of know what to do or at least how to improvise, which i haven't felt during other, hyper-edited tutorials i've watched.

Amazing. Thank you for the detailed instructions. I have a sectional that's in good shape (nobody sits on it but me) but is starting to pill. It cost so much to have it reupholstered or to buy a new one, so I'm thinking of doing it myself. Seems tedious but doable.
@MimzyandCompany

yes, you're absolutely right...it's tedious but doable. a sectional is an ambitious place to start, I have to say. Just be patient and know it's gonna take a while.

@@eslynwaterman-jones7982 I actually didn't make video of the whole sofa. So sorry! I'm about to start a workshop series about upholstery. I'm starting really simple with pillows to get my feet wet on doing zoom. But if you get on my email list I'll send you an email when my upholstery workshops are live.
I am going to do my first upholstery attempt in a few days and I'm grateful for your easy-to-follow video. I am going to do a love seat with similar round arms. I am thinking about using a faux leather to keep it away from our cats. I wonder if you have tips on faux leather or is there anything to keep an eye on as compared to linen or canvas? Thank you so much, and blessings to you !

I don’t use leather or faux leather except for chair seats. I think it’s very difficult to work with. And if your sofa has any curves it will be challenging. It’s certainly possible but challenging to stretch and get smooth.
I really wish you could do my couch and love seat leather arms. I just cannot find a comparable couch anywhere. I love this couch. But the arms leather arms are toast but all else is fine for me. I would pay a lot to have someone knowledgeable like you to fix it! At least I know it can be done.

There’s definitely an upholstery shop in your area that can do them. Maybe you could have them make you some arm covers.

I do…this video applies to slipcovers but upholstery is very similar but actually takes a little less fabric. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iZdrusmKipueZMo.htmlsi=N17Dzq49vyWEOT7N

How would you make a slipcover or reupholster for an Ashley Darcy sofa. It looks like it has four pillows in back section and has curved sides like the sofa in your video.
@MimzyandCompany
Жыл бұрын
I probably wouldn’t slipcover that style sofa because of the attached cushions on the inside arms. And probably wouldn’t reupholster it either because of that. A pro could do it for sure, but personally I wouldn’t take the time.
@Kre8iviT27
Жыл бұрын
@@MimzyandCompany yeah I was thinking that. I just want it in a different color fabric and was getting discouraged that it may cost more or just as much to change than what I paid for the sofa. ;-( What are your thoughts on fabric paints?
@MimzyandCompany
Жыл бұрын
@@Kre8iviT27 I’ve painted fabric on dining chair seats twice. The first time I used house paint and it lasted really well and then another time I used fabric paint and it chipped, cracked and came off pretty quickly . I wouldn’t recommend paint on a sofa because it’s stiff.
@Kre8iviT27

@@MimzyandCompany I was thinking that. Also if something was spilled it is on the sofa it would be hard to clean up without to ruining the paint on it.
Do you wash the new fabric that you upholster with! Thank you!

No! Only pre wash for a slipcover.
I hope somebody answers me soon
How do I know how much fabric to buy for my project? I've just discovered you, so perhaps you've already made a tutorial for that?

I think I made a video on that. But if you Google upholstery yardage calculator , there’s a picture chart with just about every style of furniture with the yardage requirement.
Where did you cut the pieces from with no pattern😢and where's the fabric glue😮
@MimzyandCompany
2 ай бұрын
I measured the the sofa and cut the fabric the size I needed, plus 2 inches all the way around. I don't use fabric glue.
Why did you pre-staple your back tack on the side of the arm? I think you run the risk of puckering no?

Revolution fabrics.
You should have done top under arm 1st then base so you can pull it to right tightness with the fabric, then go to the front side and back so you know then where the cuts should be . As the way you are doing it lets the fabric be loose wrong way of doing I have been doing upholstery from 1999 and run 5 classes I am woman made a very good business from it
