DIY Truck Bed Rack over Tonneau Cover with Superstrut, JEEP GLADIATOR Eco Diesel (EP 12)

In this video I built a bed rack out of super strut for my Jeep Gladiator Eco Diesel, getting ready for a roof top tent. My son Jordan joined me, wanting to learn how to weld.
For those interested, this is the gas-less welder we used: amzn.to/34M4ZQw
Ive had this for six years, and it has worked great for many small projects like this. It runs on a regular 120 electric outlet.

Just got my Jeep Gladiator Eco Diesel and of course the first thing I've been looking for is a nice rack that would still allow for a Tonneau cover and look nice. And of course, they are all very expensive. Think I may just try my hand at building a version of your project myself. I think my son would also really enjoy building it with me as well.

Thank you for the video!!! I think I may consider making a set. How many hours do you think it would take you if you did a second time? (If you hadn't video taped and you did welding?) Also, can you share what angle did you use at the corners? Oh, and do you think you'd go with a backwards "C" may be better to slide down the channel of the bed? That way if there's additional downward weight it's less likely to strain the bed cap clamps? And prevent clamps giving way?

Too bad there is not a slightly narrower bed cover so the legs could transfer weight to the bed rail instead of putting a bending moment on those cantilevered brackets. The rest of the rack is 10x stronger than this weak point. And you know what they say, its only as strong as the weakest link. But good to hear its doing the job. I think the 6x legs is great idead to help spread the load.
