DIY Triumph Rocket III oil change

Ойын-сауық

Welcome back! so i did an oil change on Dacey and wanted to share it with you! this configuration of engine is from engine number 217502 and up, any number below that has different drain plug locations.
Parts used:
Fram PH6017A
6 quarts Castrol 4T 10w50
Seal washer X2 (T3558989)
Seal washer (T3550123)
o-ring (T3600104)
I purchased everything from D&D import Cycles 1038 W Little Creek Rd, Norfolk, Virginia 23505
Brian always has what i need when doing my own work and if its out of my League he can usually fit me in when its convenient for me.
Tools:
Funnel
7 quart low wall drain pan
filter wrench
8mm allen socket
3/8" ratchet
3/8" torque wrench
rags
Disposable gloves
you can find the steps i followed in the Service manual on page 9.8 please make sure you torque everything down to spec. i repeatedly said 18.6 nm but was set at 18ftlbs or 25nm.
Please dispose of your old oil in a safe manner. most auto parts stores will take old oil and some local shops will as well.

About to do my first oil change on my new (to me) 2006 Rocket. I'll watch some more of your videos and see what other kind of maintenance you've done. I plan on doing plugs, gear oil, valve adjustment, etc. I also agree that oil changes should be done every 5-6000 miles. However after watching Project Farm's video on oil filters, I'll never use a Fram in my life lol

Thats why the video lists the engine number where the locations changed. Older models have them on the front and back. The process is pretty much the same aside from drain location!

I took my Rocket in to my Triumph dealer for routine service and was promptly scolded by their head wrench for using a Fram oil filter on a previous oil change. We changed it out to an OEM Triumph filter and for about a dollar more than the Fram and about 30% less than a highly touted K&N filter. Lesson learned.

sooo I have already changed oil once on this pig... But it was last year and I knew it had more than one drain plug... so a simple quick search told me YUP 2 plugs... Well 2 plugs for some years... Not my 2011... Needless to say I will now be changing oil again tonight as I didn't drain the oil tank... Thanks for the video. a quick 10 min review would have saved me 50 bucks and an hour of work. Shame on me. Subbed.

Thanks for your video. This is very useful. My 2015 manual says that I should use 10w40 or 10w50 or 15w50. So what is the difference between these types of oil? Why did you decide to use 10w50 instead of 10w40?

Hello, going to do my first oil change. Did you just add that 5,4 litres right away or what, cause manual says "When the engine is firststarted after an oil and filterchange, at least 1 to 1.5 litresof oil will be required to top-up the oil tank to the correctlevel" Doesn't that mean i should first add 4-4,5 liters of oil, then let it idle for a minute, and then add the rest 1-1,5 liters :)

  • @thewhingnut

    @thewhingnut

    Жыл бұрын

With my bike it consistently needed the 5.4l so i would add in that amount and just check the level after it idled. For you or anyone doing for the first few times I would suggest 4l to 4.5l then idle then check the level and adjust.

As with everything it depends on what you like. I love my Rocket, but it's definitely not a beginner bike. I would recommend riding various bikes to find what you like best. So far it's been very reliable for me. Better is a very subjective term. I prefer mine over the Harley's I've ridden but that's my personal preference.
