    I’ve looked into trail rails and bed rack system for my Frontier (I knowwww, not a gladiator!) for a while. Wanted to do a unistrut diy system but it looked overwhelming. After watching your two vids on installing, I’m confident I can do it now. Thanks for the info! Looks great and you made it seem less daunting than most others.

    Hey, thanks for watching and the compliment. It isn't very hard at all. Nissan has a better system than the Gladiator, but I'm sure its stupid pricey. I use mine a lot and I've never had any issues whatsoever. Good luck! I'm confident it'll be fairly easy.

    Just got a Gladiator Nov 8! From a Wrangler to a Gladiator, it was truck necessity based decision. First thing I looked up was bed modifications. I just finished installing the first rail! The sun went down, but tomorrow morning, I'll finish the job. Man this is awesome, thanks!

    That’s awesome. Even if the bed isn’t set up for it, you could always just use sheet metal screws, instead of bolts. Same difference. I have a video posting tomorrow, showing a whole new use for unistrut. This may be my favorite diy modification yet.

    Nicely done, even with the oversight with reverse hole layout, nice and clean. Also, brought me back to my childhood playing on the sidewalk seeing you work out there, kinda ironic considering your channel's name.

    For someone who’s bed doesn’t have Pre-drilled holes, what size drill bit do I use for a m6x30 bolt? Also, do you just bolt it into the bed without a nut on the backside?

  • @EvolvingMale

    @EvolvingMale

    I cant believe you don't have predrilled holes. They should be there. But if they aren't, I guess you'll have to find a way to get a nut back there.

    The pre-drilled holes don't align with the holes in the Gladiator bed, so you end up having to drill holes anyway. Also, if a hole overlaps slightly, it would be even more difficult to drill out correctly. It's easier to just start with no holes and put them where you need them.

    Good job bro…Me having OCD, I’d just say when done u should worry about ur aesthetics bec that lil piece of 2”x2” was crooked when u tightened ur eyehole bolt down. Question: wouldn’t u need Nutz on the back end of those Uni-Strut support bolts u used? So if u tie-down something tough, it doesn’t rip em out of ur bed sidewall?

  • @EvolvingMale

    They are threaded and there’s no way to get to the back. I’ve had zero issues in nearly two years. They work great. And trust me, I’ve fixed those rings to be the same a million times. OCD is alive and well inside me.

    Home Depot or Lowe's will have it in the electrical department. If there is a local Fastenal, they will have many styles and options. Any electrical supply place will have it also, but the normal box stores will have a limited supply, but easier to go into and buy. Also, Grainger.com

    Can you explain more about your reasoning? Why do you want a solid backed strut? Why not just use the pre-holed ones and use washers to pin it to the bed? I presume your truck bed already had rivnuts in the holes? Mine doesn't. I just learnt what a rivnut was today and because that wasn't mentioned I almost started the project only to fail at stage 1. How can this be under $50 project? A 10 foot unistrut on its own is $99 CAD.

    Man, you’ve got a lot of complaints. Well, for one, I’m not in Canada. I can’t make this with everybody’s currency. I’m in the US. I also made this back in like 2020, so things have gone up. I like the solid unistrut because I can have holes where I want them. Not all over the place. My truck has threads in the bed. I don’t know that not all did. You’re the first person that has said they didn’t have them. Sorry this video was such a disappointment.

    Fastenal only had 12 gauge its like .020" different in thickness. The unistrut isn't gonna be the weak point. It's gonna be the screws mounting it to the bed, and how thin the bed wall is which is gonna be way thinner
