DIY Tractor 3 point towing hitch from scrap steel

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today's farm vlog is a little work in the shop fabricating a DIY tractor 3 point towing hitch, which will be a 2 inch towing receiver so that we can tow the new military trailer with the Branson tractor. This fabrication projects will also allow us to hitch on to any of our trailers and move them around the farm. Thanks for joining us, and stay tuned to Kapper Outdoors to join us on our journey of living the dream of owning land, Branson tractor projects, Bobcat excavator projects, food plots, duck ponds, watering holes, our Kentucky farmhouse rehab project, Illinois and Kentucky land management projects, habitat improvement, DIY rustic home decor projects, DIY rustic barn board projects, and much more country living adventure. Kapper Outdoors, living the dream, one acre at a time.

Fabricating parts is an art, a mother of invention and I'm not for making parts anymore. Haven't done welding so it's an unknown to me. Stay safe, take it easy, be careful and keep warm

Looks good! I built something similar, but for extra support I had to angled pieces come down from the center to the edges of the bottom cross piece. I used mine on a small dump trailer and learned that if the 3 point lift arms were not up when the weight shifted to the back of the trailer the shift in the weight would cause the three point hitch to slam upward. Learned that the hard way lol

A penny saved is a penny earned an that should earn you quite a bit in hitching time alone 👍👍

Look at you go Joe. Hope it holds up for you. When your welding steel to cast iron heat up the cast iron where your going to weld to a dull red then weld with a 7018 or 6013 rod. Might as well use that fancy new torch just got. By heating the cast the nickel in the rod will get better penetration to strengthen the weld

The drawbar is a forged steel stamping. It should work good for you. It should make moving trailers around the farm easy for you.

Yeah, I wouldn't think they used cast iron for something that carries that much weight, but you never know when it comes to welding! thanks.

OK first item not messing with you ,keep at it. I am older than you , my boss was not happy with some of my welds. I went to the local community college and the tech instructor had all kinds of welding certifications. I had a blast and loved it all. I was a fully licensed Heavy truck, equipment, over the road trailers/reefers, logging trucks , state snowplows but until I got that help my welds looked like s*** but worse they were dangerous . I learned to TIG with a foot pedal, MIG straight and flux core and stick even vertical my worst fear. Learned aluminum both TIG and spool gun. It was worth every minute I got promoted to manage a satellite location with a fleet of aluminum end dump trailers. Walls preheating advice is a big helpful tip and Hansens ID by grinder sparks works great. check around maybe some of the miners layed off by the eco freaks in Ky might give you some tips I see your get er done work ethic. I got bad hips now but you had surgeries and keep going so you give me hope Thanks

Are you self taught welder? Does your helmet darken at the arc or is it old school? I'm not digging at you, just wondering!
