DIY Soil Strainer (Rock Strainer, Rock Grizzly)

Build your own rock strainer to remove rocks from finer soil. Easy for any home welder, fits in the back of a pickup, lots of options. If you need fines or gravel, this can really help. I used 1/8" 2"x2" steel angle, 1/2" expanded steel, 1/2" construction plywood, no-flat wheelbarrow wheels, and 5/8" rod for the axles. My next move will be to weld some 1/4" bar stock onto it, with 2" spacing. With that I'll get two inch minus gravel into the fines, which will be perfect for earthbag and will be more durable than the expanded steel. I can take that product and re-run it through the expanded steel and separate out the gravel from fines. So with that arrangement I can get (a) rip-rap (b) two inch minus gravel and (c) fines.

So what you need to do is wrap that whole thing in a cheap Big lots tarp because it's going to get tore up. I'll cut way down on the dust leave it a little baggy at the bottom weight it down with some of those rocks.

Hey man! My buddy's full size grizzly is nearby so it's fun to see the difference. I'm still happy with it but it's massive amount of dust and definitely lighter duty. I beefed up the top bars and put expanded steel on when I wanted a more finished product. All in, it was good! The wheels were dumb! Just lift it with the loader.
