Well done, but crimp for the earth wire join might be safer than solder. The solder joint could fail with the heat and your first indication might be an electric shock.

Extend the earth wire, NOOOOOOOO! Strip the power cord a bit and get a longer earth wire!
@thiloreichelt4199

@@MatsK007 I do not see a problem in extending the wire itself. The connection should be crimped (safer), the wire should be green-yellow and he should make sure the PE is the longest wire to make it tear off last.

It's a much bigger problem that he solders the wires he screws into the terminal block. That'll give loose connections very soon

NO crimp is better than a proper solder joint.

@@thiloreichelt4199 The color is easily identifiable at the base of the extension and a shrink tube sealed proper solder connection is rock solid [gas tight with molecular bonding] and will never fail unlike a crimp could. Shrink tube is high temp and won't melt.
Thanx🎉 I didn't know what to do with my coffee maker since it was almost new when I got a Nescafe Dolce Gusto as a gift,now I know,Thanx a million I am definitely going to re- purpose mine now❤❤❤❤
10:47 it's funny you can see all the old flux boiling. Drives me crazy that it never gets cleaned off of hand-soldered parts. A coworker gave me a nice 2.1 Logitech PC speaker system for free because it was making noise when adjusting the volume and one of the speakers kept cutting out. I took the wired controller apart and cleaned the potentiometer for the volume, and that got rid of the scratching, but the speaker still cut out. After tearing the sub enclosure apart, and looking at the control board that split the signal to all the different speakers, I saw the issue. Little wired pigtails to the board to the ports on the sub box were hand-soldered and the flux had remained gooey and collected tons of dust. I simply cleaned those spots with alcohol and a toothbrush to get rid of the flux-dust-sludge, and then tested it. No more speaker cut out. I've been using those speakers for longer (4yrs) than the guy who gave them to me did (about 2yrs) Moral: clean your flux. It doesn't matter if the flux is non-conductive, the dust that impregnates it potentially is conductive.

You Sir THUMBS UP. I have De-Soldered with a De-Soldering iron of which can be tedious. This is good instead of sacrificing a frying pan, and the heat is more controlled electrically only increasing up to a point rather than with fire & a frying pan.
I thought you'd be adding some kind of microcontroller, but... This is better!
I just use an old Iron (you know - the things some people use to make their clothes flat, for some reason!). Stick it upside down in a vice, dial up the temperature you want - and the solder flows!
Darn good idea. I've taken several apart to salvage their pumps and heating elements but have not had one with a thermostat which is needed for this surface mounted soldering device. I'd like to find one after seeing this video.
Simplicity the mother of invention 👍
12 years and internals so clean...
You could also pump air through where the water goes to make hot air soldering/desoldering device.

Older stuff prior to the 1980s was made better. But Planned Obsolescence been put in place since before the 1940s. A TV My Father bought a couple years before I was born 1965 lasted all they way to the very early 1990s before it finally gave up the Ghost when My Father couldn't get anymore replacement Vacuum Tubes to match TV. Now TVs/other Appliances/Electronics are lasting less than 3-12 years with only light use.

Cool, I once had the same coffee machine, but it was from 1975, so there may be not so many anymore around. After the glass pot was broken mine went into a heated magnetic stirrer, not a hot plate. I never expected that the plastic encasement could withstand temperatures above 120 °C. Please consider the emission index when pointing to metallic surfaces with an IR thermometer.

To cut the plastic - are you using a sanding disk for your multitool, or a cutting disk (for metal)..? I like this idea, by the way. So many things with usable components are thrown away - it's really great to see them re-used :)

If it 'desolders' then surely it will solder SMD parts onto a board? If you put a temp monitor on it then I see no reason you couldn't. Certainly easier than blowing parts off the board with hot air.
That's my old heating plate haha.
Semiconductor components do not withstand such long periods of heating. If you want to use the elements as salvaged parts later, it is best to sweep the elements together with a spatula-like tool from the card surface after the card is completely warmed up. If you try to pick up individual items with tweezers, most items will be exposed to extreme heat and die before you pick them up.

An alternative to the spatula is to just whack the side of the PCB on a hard surface and let all the parts go flying

I've baked "dead" GPUs to reflow and bring them back to life at similar or higher temperatures. With all the different parts on a GPU, I had a pretty high success rate reflowing old GPUs and bringing them back to life. If you look at commercial automated or manual reflow stations, they operate at around 250c or higher. I would think they would be most concerned out of anyone when it comes to damaging components, as they make new/warrantied products.
Nên thay thế nó
I'm 100% sure you could even turn this into a soldering plate but that would require electronics haha. Gotta keep temperature profile curves
Nice idea but I would have thought lead-free solder plus an alumininum substrate would have required much higher than 190 to easily desolder???? those LEDs
@TheotanyaSama
Жыл бұрын
Indeed, for Sn-Ag-Cu solder, melting temps are about 210°C. But for Sn-Pb solder, it's enough since the melting point is at about 180°C. For the PCBs on the vid, maybe it is some cheap chinese products with Sn-Pb solder.
Would give some folks a piece of mind to test those de-soldered elements to show they still work given power. A small blower, like flux fan might help divert noxious fumes the PCB might give off. However, you appear to be in a large work area, like a garage so it's probably not so much an issue.
How can it controlle the temperature around 190 'C with a old fridge (around 4 'C) thermostaat ?

Hi is any wiring diagram
This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact kzread.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.
Well given the melting point of your average 60/40 solder is at 375°F and your average coffee maker heating element warming plates only reach a max of 200°F, only reaching above the 212°F within the percolating tube mounted directly on the heating element. Im not sure this would work.. it would preheat the boards to 200°F then a hot air rework gun could have an easier time retrieving or fixing components, but not the heating element alone…. All the thermostat does is turn the element on or off based on the pressure inside the bulb preset by manufacturer, so it does not boost any power for the unit.. unless you overvolt the element, which would work seeing as those elements wont go full nuclear until double the normal voltage is pushed through them.. the fugger would get hot nuff then for sure..
Give the caffe machine model pls

Hm; my fryer thermostat only goes up to 200°C which won't be enough for desoldering, do you used some special fryer from hell?
All the coffee makers I have seen are not designed that way. They have a boil chamber cup connected directly to the water tank and then use a separate warmer plate heating element in the bottom which would not get hot enough.

i was wondering the same thing - how'd that heat the water from the reservoir..
Great video! But at 7:38 I think it would be better to route the ground wire away from the heating element - it was kind of where it should be, until you moved it after you connected it at 7:43.
Why was it on the ceiling?
@ErCanEverything
Жыл бұрын
Because it is very old and I knew that one day it would serve for something like the amplifier in my workshop Sony XO-D50 and I have another coffee machine🙂
Good video and good build. -Please know that it is *forbidden* in EU to use solder on a wire before putting it in a screw-terminal. The correct way is to remove 10mm of the insulation, twist the wire, bend the tip 5mm backwards so you have a total of 5mm exposed wire, then make sure the tip of the wire is at the top (so the screw touches the tip) when tightening the screw. Using solder on the wire-ends that go in screw-terminals may seem like a good idea at first, but it has caused many fires in my country and this is now forbidden by law and regulations.

Terrible overheating during the process of salvaging those tiny elements due to their quantity - takes too much time to remove all of them. But very good for tea or coffee mug to keep it hot all the way.
Cool hack, but no need to slaughter a coffee machine to replicate this. I am using the heat plate of a cloer electric fondue for years. About 25 Euros cost, no need to modify anything, bigger plate for bigger sitze boards.
