DIY Shower Steamers For Sinus Relief. WITH RECIPE!
***In this tutorial I will teach you how I make my "Breathe" Shower Steamers. Full of lots of effervescent fragrances that are known to help relieve the symptoms of a cold or flu. I sold these in my Etsy shop and they were my absolute best seller.
***Shower Steamers (also called Shower Fizzies, Shower Melts, and Shower Bombs) are similar to Bath Bombs but instead of using them in the tub, Steamers are used in the shower!

I find corn starch to work just as well for the hardening process as the clay. Corn starch is used as a hardener in a lot of clay-like crafts.

Hello, when using the cornstarch, do you also add 91% alcohol to the mixture, or do you only use it to spray the mixture to ensure it will properly clump together?
Hi again. I’m from Australia just trying to work out what you Molds are called and hopefully I can find something similar here 🥰

hi there emilie. love your vids thank you so much for the inspiration. I made the steamers and my citric acid looked like it seperated from the mixture and the rest just looked like crumbled tart lol. what went wrong pls
Emilie, I made a glorified mess out of my shower steamers. They wouldn't hold together at all, no matter how wet or dry... anyway, I was wondering if I can take that mix ( your recipe ) and use it as foaming bath powders. There isn't any EO in them, only FO.
Would love a packaging video.

Why do you use rubbing alcohol as opposed to witch hazel?
Hey there! Could you use 70% rubbing alcohol? :)
Do you use menthol at all for your shower steamers? And do you use them strictly for showers or can someone use it in the bath?
How would you add Menthol Crystals And how much
Hi. Does it matter about the percentage of alcohol? I have lots of 70% alcohol… I just want to use what I have..
Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I don't have access to 91% Alcohol, can I use 99% instead?
Can I use silicone molds?
Oh I could so use this right now with sinus acting up - I feel like I have a pillow stuffed up my nose lol. TFS

Love your video. Tried your steamers in the mold and took them out after they dried. The started turning white and powdered looking and porous. I sprayed with alcohol (mistake) because they activated. Do you have any idea of where I went wrong. Of course I will never spray with alcohol again. However, I did something wrong in the process. I desperately need the headache bath bomb. Thank you!! Also can Epsom salt be added to the bombs?
@UntidyArtist
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the headache bath bomb suggestion! I add Epsom salt to my bath bombs, but not to my shower steamers. The Epsom salt is wonderful if it can be absorbed into the skin (in the bath), I don't feel it is helpful is a Shower Steamer because it is not absorbed into the skin. Here is a link for a Bath Bomb tutorial. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKOMsdNxcceZZKQ.html Hope this helps! xo

I melt the menthol in the alcohol overnight and pour the amount of alcohol needed in the recipe and it works great. Not exact amount but put in 1 ounce spray bottle and add menthol crystals to the bottle. As many as I can fit and pour alcohol in. Shake and let it sit overnight.

I don’t have kaolin clay, could using bentonite clay instead of kaolin clay do the same thing since it’s for hardening purpose?

I have made two batches if these and the first batch didn’t have a string enough scent so I made a second batch with double the eucalyptus oil. However, when I used it I could not smell it in my shower STILL. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Any suggestions?

Tracey's Body Treats me too! I almost thought that I was going to have to use the whole bottle of eucalyptus but I felt It never really opened up my nasal passages and it was a slight subtle smell .
doesn't it make the bath tub/shower floor slippery while its melting??
Can I use 70% alcohol?
Please show how you package. Thank you.

It’s very similar to a bath bomb, so if you are comfortable using those then you should be fine. However, it’s not really great for vagina health to use bubble bath or bath bombs, purely because it can disrupt the ph balance. I always use just water around sensitive parts but manny don’t, it’s kind of a personal thing, you will know what your vagina will and will not like.
I tried to use your recipe with moon cakes and i had some expand and some that stayed molded. Any idea on what I did wrong?!? Should I cover them?

It might be too humid/too much liquid, i had to literally dry mine with a fan because i live in a very humid place.
I find it so relaxing to do. My issue the scent is not strong enough. Any suggestions on scents?
@UntidyArtist
4 жыл бұрын
Hmm...I have a few suggestions. You could try placing the steamer closer to you in the shower if possible (in a soap tray, or in a mesh bag around the faucet), you can add more fragrance to the steamer recipe (make sure you keep the liquid portion of the recipe the same - whatever extra fragrance you add, subtract that amount from the amount of Alcohol you add), or you can place the steamer in a bowl of hot water and do a facial steam (BE CAREFUL the water is not too hot and fragrance is not too strong!). Hope this helps!

How important is the “91%” alcohol? Can it be 70%?
@UntidyArtist
2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! I have only ever made these with 91% alcohol. I like using the 91% because more of it evaporates out of the steamer giving me a harder steamer and a longer fizz. If you try using the 70% let me know how it works. Hope this helps😘
Is 91% Rubbing alcohol an absolute must? I'm having hard time finding it. I can only find 70% and 99%.
@UntidyArtist
2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I have only ever used the 91% because so much evaporates out of it, giving you a harder and longer lasting shower steamer. I must say, if I had access to the 99%, I would definitely use it! I would recommend the 99% over the 70%. Hope this helps. Happy crafting my friend!

Can you put your ingredients in the comments please and thank you
A much easier and better and cheaper recipe that lasts 15 mins is a ratio of 3 to 1 baking soda to citric acid.....nothing else is needed..no clay or polysorbate since they are only to go in a shower....you do not want these in a bath.....water is the binder...you can easily add color and fragrance of course....mixing for 4 mins is just a waste of energy....all one needs is a bowl and a whisk and I personally use a spray bottle of water...they go rock hard as well.
Why rubbing alcohol rather than water?
@UntidyArtist
2 жыл бұрын
I choose to use alcohol over water because water makes the mixture start to activate while you are mixing them. By using alcohol the mixture doesn’t start to activate as much. The alcohol also evaporates out leaving you with a harder shower steamer. Hope this helps!
