DIY Seedling Heating Mat, MacGyver Style! - Karl’s Food Forest Garden - S001E029
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Heating mats for seed starting can be expensive, especially if you need larger ones, or a few of them. In this video I show you how I created a simple, temperature-controlled space for keeping my seedlings warm. OK, I admit it, I bought the digital thermostat for $18, but the mat itself was made almost entirely of things I already had around the house.
This definitely falls into the MacGyger “don’t try this at home” category of DIY projects. Unless you know how to wire a lamp, and have the common sense not to burn your house down, definitely don’t do this. I don’t give explicit directions for just this reason! If, on the other hand, you are handy and know enough to wire a lamp, you should be able to figure out the details without much more help from me!

I like incandescents to use for a heat source because they can be controlled by a simple light dimmer.
Purchase an inexpensive electric heating pad for your backaches. Work just as well as those expensive pads for cheap. Probably find someone who would part with the pad they only used once. Set on a cheap timer and manually adjust to get right temp or one of those temp controllers. If you have an FSA you can purchase the pad for dual use pre-tax income. :)

Good tip!
For an inexpensive heat mat: Look in thrift shops, estate sales, or ask older relatives, for a WARMING TRAY, used in the past to keep food & casseroles warm when serving.

I was thinking about that. Now, I need to look for mine 😂
Interesting video. Good 💡 ideas. Not sure I'm going to do this right now, but definitely a great video! 💕 Thanks MacGyver! 😏

Glad you liked it!
i understand this is doing what you want, If you wanted more even temp you could try 2 or 3 bulbs of even a higher wattage bulbs on a dimmer switch that is controlled by your controller. The dimmer will allow you to use any wattage bulbs you want and tweak it so they could switch on/off less.. Thank you very much for your idea, its just what I am looking for.
