Next epsode idea - add a security pincode to the lock: there is a set of 8 switches inside the door and a 8 buttons outside. Connect each pair throughout a XOR gate, and AND all of the outputs together. When the arduino detects the output (of the and) is true, then disable the alarm. On the inside of the door, add another button to re-enable the alarm. Now there's a way to come in! (extra programming challenge: add a button to get out, e.g. a button that when pressed times the program out by a time.Sleep(10000) so it pauses for ten seconds, enough time to get out and close the door without the alarm activating, and after 10 seconds, reactivates the alarm system)

Just one thing, i would have placed it on the opening side of the door, with the sensor mesouring the distance so that when the door openes just a tiny bit the distance decreases under the threshold and triggers the alarm. sorry for my bad english, have a good one

Dude this is useful If you can add a switch and then put it on your front door at night you can switch it on And if someone tries to break in you would hear the buzzer noise And in the morning you cant turn it off

Finally I learnt how to use Ultrasonic sensor.. It was simple and I was thinking that as a monster... Thanks

One Christmas a bunch of years ago, back when hack-a-day hadn't sold it's soul, I came across this guy that put Christmas light in his house... you know, normal human stuff... but then the mad lad put relays to all of them, setup a live stream, did some electronic wizardry, made a website to control the Christmas light IN HIS LIVING ROOM, and posted that online! You know, like not-normal humans do! Anyways, I played with his light and thought that was pretty cool, so I decided to do the same! Got a ESP8266, connected it to my router, pointed my home ip to the ESP, wrote a small program and some html to toggle an LED on/off and posted my IP on reddit (www.reddit.com/r/electronics/comments/3f8v5d/play_with_my_led/). You know, normal people stuff... Don't judge, back then I was broke, Christmas lights and the relays to control those was out of my budget and skills... and now... well, now I'm just lazy! 😝 But it was pretty fun!! After posting the link on reddit, I sat down on the couch in front of the LED and when, like 10 mins later, the LED turned on and it wasn't me, it was awesome!! you know, like, someone is IN MY HOUSE CONTROLLING MY CIRCUIT kind of feeling... you know, normal human stuff! 😂 Anyways... sorry for the wall of text! It was this video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/qGuZqraHnZS_pLg.html&ab_channel=Matt_Parker_2) . He made it possible for people to write and send their own code and run them on his Christmas tree. It was incredible to see all the patterns! Although yours was not as impressive as his 😂😂 I still think you did something amazing! I don't even know how I would go about doing something like that! I can just imagine how you must've felt when you saw you're creation working. Thinking, "someone ELSE actually turned this on INSIDE my house". You should make the room lock from the amazing spiderman 1 and 2!

It was good, it could be better via not using a ultrasonic sensor but using a magnetic sensor

replace the Arduino with an ESP and the distance thing with a magnetic door sensor switch and you have a real alarm system

I did something similar, but I just made the door slip a screwdriver attached to a demon core. Can't break into my house if you are slowly dying a painful death

Because computer engineering gives more in-depth knowledge of computer architecture (which I'm really a fan of) suchs as: algorithms, electronics, networks/protocols, embedded systems, circuit analysis, etc. Mechatronics sacrifices some of that knowledge for control systems like gears and pulleys (which I'm not really a fan of). I only like the the idea of robotics in that major. I'd rather self-teach myself robotics and take robotics related courses as electives.
