Hey guys! I've received *SO MANY* comments about wearing a mask while mixing resin. As you can tell from this video, I'm not wearing one. Since shooting this video, I have learned about using PPE while handling resin. Always make sure to read your product labels before working with any potentially hazardous materials. Thanks everyone!

Hiya, The coasters turned out stunning. Just a little tip: The alcohol ink makes the resin level sink a bit and due to this you get the rough edges What I usually do, when using alcohol ink, is adding more clear resin when it's almost cured. Like this you don't have to sand them in the end =)

That’s actually not the best way to do it. I discovered sometime after making these that the parts don’t weigh the same! It’s better to measure out the amounts in different cups and mix together. Less room for error.

Hey there Happy Crafting Lady! I just sent your husband a response on Reddit, when he mentioned your channel. So here's my Expert-KZreadr-Connoisseur critique of your video that I sent to him: 1) Your wife has awesome hair color! 2) With that kind of hair color... I have to ask... and be honest now... was she ever at one point a Cyndi Lauper fan? Because if so, then so was I! Thus extra bonus points to her in my review! (So many awesome memories of 1980's high school slow dances to Cyndi Lauper tunes... Time after Time...) 3) The end product was actually totally super awesome! Your wife is actually a true artist. Seriously. So yes: tons of points for her in my review, for her artistic abilities. 4) Unfortunately I'm going to have to reduce a few points due to the initial audio quality. But the ending audio quality perfectly fixed the problem. (So whatever she did at the end for microphone/audio was best.) 5) So... all in all... thumbs up! I also subscribed to her channel!

Hi there, I really love this one. Is there a trick to not getting white blobs of ink sinking to the bottom and showing when you turn the coaster over?

  • @HappyCraftingLady

    @HappyCraftingLady

    4 жыл бұрын

I would say chances are you are having spots where you have the white drop and there is not already color on that spot. The trick is to drop the white alcohol ink right on top of the other colors. Any time it hits an empty spot is when you will get the white dropping down the way the colors do when you add the white to it! I hope this helps!

There are a lot of bubbles because of your stir method. When stirring resin use a silicone mixing stick and cup. Stir SLOWLY in one direction. This will greatly reduce bubbles. 👍🏻👍🏻 (Also, you should never use a torch with silicone molds.)

I have not personally tried this technique, however I can say from experience that the resin typically sticks to anything you put it on except the silicone on the molds! I might just have to try this idea out and post a video showing how it works!

As a beginner I just made couple from a beginner kit with coaster molds and *powdered mica colors and gold flakes (still curing as I type). Also a heat gun. I see liquid alcohol ink has more pop with a lot less mess. I’ll buy that next but curious you opinion/advice on using silicon drops, UV resin, what brand resin is best and what tools best for making a space themed? My goal is a resin night light with galaxy. It can be done. It’s not rocket science 😉 I just need the right resin making chemical materials, colors, tools and galactic/level trial and error patience. Any advice with resin/tools? Thanks in advance and thanks for helpful vid!

It would really depend on a lot of things. The amount of inks. The temperature of your resin. The temperature of the room. The drops of the white… anything could cause a different effect!

It stuck? Maybe got a bit close with your torch? I have found since doing this video that spraying the top with rubbing alcohol gets rid of the bubbles and doesn’t chance ruining your molds!

I love your work! Just a question. Do you sell your alcohol ink and resin products to the public and are you not worried about the fact that it looses colour after a couple of weeks? Or how do you avoid it? I would love to do large painting but are very scared about customers returning my product due to this fact. Would love a reply from you thanks

I have not had issues with the colors fading. My mom has one of the tumblers I did 2 years ago and it is still just as vibrant as when I made it. I think it has a lot to do with the quality of the ink and resin you use!

Question...tried this and it still hasn't cured. Used equal parts and the alcohol ink is still wet on top. Also, the resin isn't hard. It's been 24 hours. Any idea to what went wrong? The temp in the house isn't too warm, so it's a tad mild.

If you poured really thin layers that can make it take longer to cure. If you added a lot of alcohol ink in that can effect the curing time. If the resin wasn’t mixed 100% it can have spots that won’t cure. There are many many reasons that your resin could be taking a while to cure. I hope maybe these suggestions will help you narrow down he issue you are having! Please let me know if you figure it out or have any other questions!

I tried this a couple days ago and when I dropped my inks they didn't separate and spread like that. And then when the resin dried, there was a layer on top of wet ink. There was a tiny bit of the effect on the top but the colors didn't come through and it mostly looked white/pastel. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

  • @HappyCraftingLady

Can you tell me what kind of ink you are using? Also there is a heating element that makes the colors move. It also sounds like you may have put a lot of alcohol ink on top and possibly waited too long to put it on. Too much makes it sticky and tacky on the top. It might eventually cure but it won’t be the same as the regular resin curing.

  • @HappyCraftingLady

I have heard if you mix really slow that you won’t get as many bubbles. Also if you can use rubbing alcohol sprayed lightly on the resin it will pop bubbles better than a torch and you are much less likely to ruin your mold!
