I think it would have been super smart to use a standard 2" hitch size on the winch side so that it could be installed into any receiver super easy! Guess you could change it super easily if you wanted. I just thought it would be super fun to let you know my thoughts. Super fun video though.

Exactly, switch the 2” to the winch and it would have been universal.

Great job. I am sure someone already mentioned it but you have the hitch mounts bass akwards. You should have mounted the male hitch to the winch and female to the trailer. That way you can use hook just the winch to the truck or any vehicle if needed

I'm about to mount a winch on my "new" old trailer. I will put the male part of the hitch on the winch, so I can pull it off the trailer and plug it into my truck hitch. Eventually, I will have a receiver on the front of my truck too, so I can use the winch in any of 3 laces by just pulling the pin and moving it..

I gotta have this done to a utility trailer for junk removal. This came out good.👍👍👍

Harbor fright does sell a winch plate that is set up for the roller fairlead and the winch itself go check that out at harbor fright the next time you go there

I agree great weld, I also agree you set it up backwards. Always trash the bolts and buy Grade 8 hardware. You needed a winch plate under the winch & that fairlead would of bolted on the winch plate.

Great looking welds, I was thinking if you made you're plate twice as big front to back you could've made another plate come up perpendicular to it with gussets and mount your fairlead to that.

Hell yeah those were some awesome welds..wish I could weld like that..👍🏻👍🏻planing a similar setup for a goose neck trailer. Waiting for the cooler months here in south Texas. We averaging 100 plus days right now..

That's a good winch. That's what I have on my 20 ft trailer. It will pull dam near anything. Exp with a snatch block

i welded a 1=1/8th trailer ball hitch, i can put winch on any 1-1/8th trailer ball, on my truck, car hauler, any other pickup.

I bought a winch plate off Amazon that slides into a hitch receptacle. I welded the female receptacle to the trailer. The Fairland holes on the plate I bought were too wide so I cut the plate that came with the winch and welded it to the front of the new plate to allow me to bolt up the fairlead. I can attach or remove my winch in seconds. I don't know why some guys permanently mount their winches to the trailer. You then allow the weather to destroy the winch when it sits outside. Plus if you need the winch on your vehicle, you either have to buy another winch or go through a bunch of headache to take it off the trailer.

it all looked good altho i probably would have welded the receiver to the trailer and the other part to the winch so you could use the receiver part for other things like a hook or clevis ir another tool . the receiver is a universal . good work

I hope that plate you bolted the winch to holds up. I mounted a 5000 lb. winch to a plate like that with the same receiver hitch idea. The idea is sound, but after about 10 uses, the winch twisted the plate and rendered itself worthless. You've probably got better torsional rigidity since you welded yours, though. I had to bolt my receiver to the plate.

I would have put the female on the trailer and male tube on the winch, and done it so the receiver tube didn’t protrude into the trailer. It would have been more universal and you wouldn’t lose any trailer space. But, nice clean work.

That is some very nice welding. My dad was a welder...one of the best. His work looked like yours. I would like to learn to weld a little. Can you point me in the right direction for a welding machine to start off with? Or maybe someone else would have some advice or a suggestion. Thanks a lot for a great video. Jesus bless.

I can see that frame of the trailer bend when you try to pull something heavy. Need to reenforce it so will not bend. I did something similar and I had to put some steel to the front of the trailer.

I'd like to see this thing in action, pulling something up on the trailer. I bet it bends down an inch or 2 under load of pulling since nothing is under the hitch mount itself that the winch is on. I'm planning on putting something like this on my trailer, but I wanted to mount it towards the tongue of the trailer, seems like you give up several feet of trailer space for this winch. I have a piece on the front of my trailer also that stores the ramps, and the siding on my trailer is around 1.5ft tall. I cant mount it on the top bar like I've been seeing, I could mount it where you mounted yours, but it may or may not affect the ramp storage area, and the winch sits like 1-2ft out from the front of the trailer. I have been using a com-along winch that I hook at the very front of the trailer near the tongue area, and I can winch cars all the way up to where the front is almost touching the front bar on the trailer, this especially helps with towing longer cars. I'm afraid with your winch setup, I wouldn't be able to have that extra space to tow the car up a few more feet farther onto the trailer. Also, I do wanna make my winch removable like yours as well to mount in my garage floor to winch cars into my shop as well.

I added a bumper receiver to my garage floor about 3 years ago using concrete anchors. My driveway is steep and it has been working great with my badlands winch with the wireless remote. Its one of the best investments i have ever made. No more asking neighbors to help push project vehicles up my driveway ever again.

In the process of making a cut file for a mount that will incorporate the fairlead and the base mount all in one. Don't like store bought ones.

How bad did the plate twist?

What is the thickness of the plate?

Wish i could weld like that lol

But does it work well?

Yes, it tilts up from the front jack you see behind/under the winch mount
