DIY | Recording Vocal Booth Tutorial for Under $100
Музыка
Here is how I made a Recording Vocal Booth for Under $100!
(Apologies for the wonky audio. There are detailed instructions below so you don't miss anything!)
_________
For cutting the PVC, you will need a hacksaw, seven 10ft PVC pipes, measuring tape, a pencil/marker, and a mask.
Wear your mask to prevent from inhaling the PVC dust, and take two of the 10ft poles, measure to 5ft (in half), and cut.
Take the rest of the poles, measure 4ft, and then cut another 4ft out of the excess (out of each of these five 10ft poles, you will get two 4ft poles and one 2ft pole).
You should end up with four 5ft poles, ten 4ft poles, and four 2ft poles.
Here are the rest of the supplies:
10 ft PVC Pipes: www.lowes.com/pd/Charlotte-Pi...
Elbow PVC Fittings: www.lowes.com/pd/LASCO-1-in-x...
Tee PVC Fittings: www.lowes.com/pd/LASCO-1-in-x...

Good idea!!! Very simple. Also if anyone is needing to cut the PVC and don’t have power saws, they sell a little cutter at hardware stores for like 15 bucks.
Cool set up
This is the cheapest best way I've found! Thank you Soo so much for this!
Finished mine per your info today. Game Changer. Thank you for your great inspiration !

That’s a nice and simple build. I like it. I have been mulling this build over in my mind for a few years and today, I decided to finally do it. Thanks to a friend who basically had the frame I needed (metal piping). All I have to get is the blankets and soundproof foam. I will do a slight variation to the build by mounting plywood in the open spaces of the piping and attach soundproof foam to that. Question for you? Do you have a shelf to set an iPad/iPhone or your lyrics on!? Thanks for your video…
Thank you for this video! I'm probably going to make one next weekend. Wish me luck :)

I recommend wooden pellets. They are fantastic bass traps. But them in Any box, they will trap the lows

@@CaseyTylerCovers Good morning Casey. The blankets you bought are very thin aren't they? Do they absorb enough of the reverb sound of the room? My living room has a lot of reverb and because one person says I need the professional blankets that are high in price and another person says I need thicker blankets because the thin ones don't really absorb anything - love to hear your experience with yours. I am a opera singer, so I not really want a fully closed booth where all sound boomy, the vocal still have to sound alive. Hope you can share with me your idea on the blankets and what your results are with the thin ones you use,,Thanks
@CaseyTylerCovers

@@joshrainbow-IceTenor they are pretty thin! I was trying to keep my booth super cheap, so I definitely would go with a more expensive and thicker moving blankets if you're not worried about price@

@@joshrainbow-IceTenor I think the blankets I have still work nicely though, but I would prefer a thicker one... For what you're looking for they may work though :)

Casey Tyler hi Casey, thank you so much for the reply, I rely appreciate that. Thursday I will set up the PVC framework :-) I will check if I can try some out and purchase the one that sounds best, maybe the store here want to let me try a few :-) again, thank you for your help :-)
KOOL PRETTY LADY...NICE JOB!!!!
Is a booth like this useful for an acoustic isolation treatment ?
This looks great and pretty straightforward. Was there any issues with the sound coming in from the gap between the bottom of the soundproof blanket and the floor? I noticed the length didn't reach the floor. Did that create any issues?
💚
Would a regular fleece blanket work too?
Awesome video. I am looking to do the same thing but for me When I’m in the booth singing will the people that live upstairs from me hear me Singing because I got to keep the noise down
@musthavemetalradio

Yes, they will hear you. This is for using as an acoustically treated space to record in (no echo) and is not intended to keep sounds in or out of the booth.
This is such a great idea, I'll be heading to the plumbers merchant on Monday. One question though, what did you use for a roof?
@CaseyTylerCovers
Жыл бұрын
awesome! I actually didnt use a roof but you can definitely purchase another moving blanket to lay on the top!
I can hear the difference between computer mic and yeti mic, but I'm not so sure I hear a difference with the yeti mic outside and inside. Is there a reason for that?
Hey Casey you're a smart sister!

aww thanks!!
Great idea!! I'll try it on the future! I have the same Yeti mic as you do, yours sounds great! I don't do singing but I'm still trying to make mine sound better. Did you tried any tutorial to calibrate it?

I found a tool called voicemeeter, a virtual mixer. It's free and you can find loads of tutorials on setting it up on youtube.
would this help stop people hearing me from though the walls?
What type of blanket did you use?
I've been toying with the idea of building my own sound proof booth. On a tight budget. Wonder if you could leave off one of the pvc pipes in the middle, so the draped blanket becomes a door where you don't have to duck under to get in?
@ruthlessrich4674

what about using velcro for a door?
Awesome! Could you tell me what is product is holding your yeti mic?
@CaseyTylerCovers
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lilo! I’m honestly not sure what brand it is because I got it probably 10 years ago, but it’s just a normal mix stand from guitar center :)
Totally Heard- Elbow and ended up buying the wrong thing. Can that be more specific? I didn’t think they were called elbow.
Hi Casey - Did I miss how you dealt with the roof of your booth? Curious about that part!
@CaseyTylerCovers
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jae! I actually don't have a roof on mine. It seems to work really well even without one, but I'm sure if you wanted to buy an extra moving blanket and lay it on top, that would work well too!
Hey the cut 5 feet or 5 and. Half feet
In my country cant get thats sounds blankets, wich blanket material do you suggest??? Thanksssss

Same here. We don't have it here in ASIA. Plan to use fleece blanket or quilted comforter.
Hey Casey, I may have missed it, but could you let me know how many of the blankets and foam pieces you ended up using to build this setup?
@CaseyTylerCovers
4 жыл бұрын
hi Jake! I used all 4 blankets for the walls and then I think only about 8 of the foam pieces. It can vary with the foam but I’d definitely stick to all 4 blankets for the walls!

Thank you!
What microphone stand did you use? Is it freestanding?
@CaseyTylerCovers
3 жыл бұрын
I use a Yeti mic on a stand!
How many blankets?
I've heard these fall over unless you glue the pieces in. Did yours hold up ok?
@CaseyTylerCovers
2 жыл бұрын
I put it up and tear it down every time I record and it stays fine! Sometimes its a bit wobbly if I don't take my time to really make sure the pieces are in, but for the most part, it works great!
Doesn't Lowe's already sell 5ft, 4ft and 2ft poles, or am i an idiot and the reason you suggest the 10ft ones is so that you can save more money
You have a lovely voice but I haven’t seen you make use of the booth. What are your thoughts 10 months later?

@@CaseyTylerCovers that is great to know because I'm building one now!😁
why didn't you just lay the acoustic curtains over the structure in an inverted U shape and avoid all the hassle of hanging them? you can then cross another curtain over and then you have all 4 sides done. wouldn't this work? thanks!
Hi. This doesn’t really have to do with the diy but I was wondering, are you an alto or a soprano? I really like your songs and videos. Keep up the great work!!

Mezzo-soprano I believe!
It's sound proofing blanket?
@CaseyTylerCovers
3 жыл бұрын
It's moving blankets, but yes, they work to soundproof!
How to put that sound proof
Hi Casey, i don't want to be a smart ass or anything. But when you are in the booth, who presses record? This is a serious question
@CaseyTylerCovers
2 жыл бұрын
I usually just bring a chair with my laptop on it in with me! I’ll press record and make sure the music is pushed a bit so I have a few seconds to get situated and then start singing :)
blankets on the inside pleeease!
You say to order 10ft pieces but you cut it in three pieces of 5, 4, and 2 which is 11ft, so which is it, 10 ft or 11 ft?
@CaseyTylerCovers
3 жыл бұрын
It's 10 ft. We only used two 10ft poles and cut them in half (making the four 5ft poles) and then the rest were cut 4ft + 4ft + 2ft = 10ft.

Not a real vocal booth it's an enclosure. For a real vocal booth plan that is 100% air tight 20X years in the business. Not to take away from your enclosure baffle but this isn't booth.
