When we fill molds at the glass studio we place the mold on a scale, zero it out and then fill to the recommended weight, generally there is a sheet included with the mold with the fill measurements on it but it should also be available from the manufacturer/supplier

Hey Yvonne, I have been working with glass for about a decade and when learning about glass I was taught that the compounds in the glass-release dust are pretty bad to breath. I haven't used that brand of mold-release but I just looked it up, including the data sheet for the main compound, boron-nitride. I saw in your video that you just swept away the mold-release dust with a brush. Breathing that dust can be dangerous to your health. The chemical data sheet confirms it. When using kiln-shelf paper, which is totally different but what we used at the time, I was taught that a safer way was to put it in water so you can just wash the dust away without letting it become airborne. Please be careful with that boron-nitride dust. The data sheet recommends wet-sweeping (wet cloth, etc) or hepa-vac, definitely not letting it get airborne. Have fun with the glass. Rubius Glass

And yes, you are correct. It is a copper/sulfur reaction at the meeting of the blue and opalescent glass. It also works well with an ivory glass. And silver/ivory is a very popular reaction. You can make some lovely things with silvered ivory, but beware, silver (and gold, platinum, etc) is EXTREMELY bad to breath in and you need excellent kiln and torch ventilation to use it safely.

I didn't see her brush anything dry. When she scrubbed the cabs she had them in a bowl of water, so she was scrubbing them wet. Good info though! :)

I think the reaction is the edge of the blue mixing with the yellowish of the other... I don’t think it would happen with just clear glass... but I knows nuthin.... 🤪❤️❤️❤️

@Yvonne Williams I LOVE these!! Definitely love less frit for more "sciencie" reactions and color lines.😎 Maybe next time try focusing the frit in center of cab, so it doesn't get wrap over when you're creating one of your FABULOUS pieces!!😉

Hello, they are beautiful. Question: you never used old glas to make beads and capuchons? I saw someone on KZread so it, they search for Glas in "the wild", searching for bottles in different colours. So they clean up the environment and then use it for making beads and cabochons. And I must say the came out beautiful. It was a bit work to break the Glas in pieces, but they came out beautiful. I mean I find them beautiful. Not very colorful, but there where they put some bought Glas in it, like orange or Reds, blues. But the base was found Glas. And they use colorless Glas to do the dome. Question: isn't it dangerous to do that? I am affraid of fire after being burned and ended up in the burn center hospital... since then I am affraid of fire. So that's why I started wirewrapping. Because I don't dare to use my flame thing to solder anymore... so wirewrapping was my coping mechanism... but I mis it though. Question: do you have somewhere a tutorial of what to use? I can't find it. I probably looked over it... Question: a kiln is that expensive? Or can you have smaller things you can use... Question: how old are your dogs? Mine is 14 years and a half... and she is having the beginning of cancer 😢😢😢 don't know what I should do whiteout her... And I am done with questions.... Oops, can you tell me something about that thing you are doing with your metal? When it sometimes get hair... I really am fed up with painkillers and my brain doesn't work very good anymore, so I am always forgetting how things are named when I arrive to comment and ask sorry.... Okay now I am finished. Sorry for asking so any questions and sorry for my mistakes... I am not english speaking and my brain is a mess because of those painkillers... if you dont have time to respond, or even when you don't read this long comment, don't feel sorry, I understand... you have luckily a lot of subscribers... and I understand that you have more things to do than answering my probably stupid questions... if somebody else want to answer it's fine by me... Anyhow. Thank you for all your tutorials and your connection with your subscribers. It is thanks to you that I started wirewrapping, when I couldn't solder anymore... (I still can solder, but I am to affraid. And with that glassmelting I can let my hubbie do the dangerous things..., letting him solder that's an other thing, it's a big part of making the piece...)

Hi, Malika. Yvonne said that whilst she also makes her own frit, she also buys it because the quality of the glass is impeccable in bought frit. DIY frit making can be great but consistency in quality is difficult because of the likelihood of contamination between batches. Whilst DIY is much cheaper, it is more time consuming and less consistent in quality.

Another issue with found glass is you cant guarantee the COE (coefficient of expansion) - basically it cant reliably fuse to anything but itself with out the resulting glass piece breaking. Just like water and oil dont mix well different COEs dont mix well :) They do make smaller kilns that can be used in a microwave, i think they still run like 100$ tho
