Nice job using a minimal amount of tools. Using the tools you have, the only change I would have made would have been to drill holes through the metal tubing and attach the wood directly with screws through the metal instead of using the clamps. Were you ever interested in making a swing like this much faster and stronger with much less work and had the money, here are the tools you would want: a compressor, an air powered stapler, a chop saw, a variable speed battery powered 3/8 " drill (to drive the screws). Also I only use torques screws (the bit never slips in the screw like it can in Phillips screws).

I think it is half inch thick. I don't remember the width.

We just cleaned them, sanded, and spray painted.
