DIY POND FILTER [using Home Depot parts]

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Upgrading my pond filter was something that I badly needed to do, and it ended up being more work than I thought. However, the end result was what I wanted. This video may help you create your own DIY pond filter.

One thing I did different is that my filter sock is my first stage of mechanical filtration and it made cleaning way easier since all my other sponges stay cleaner for a longer period.

I like the idea of the filter setup but why not get a different plant to go in it that's not so big & easier to manage ? I'd put like some floating plant's or some other type plant's that would help filter the water or no plant's & cover it.

Thanks for sharing. Excellent video. I made a smaller version of this using a rectangle planter box for my aquarium. I however used an internal canister as the pump with a coarse sponge to act as prefilter and then at the inflow of the filter I put a container with a medium & fine sponge for mechanical filtration & polishing which then takes it down to the bottom of the planter below the bio media which has a grating under it. It then flows bottom up through the bio media and plant roots & then overflows out through 2 overflow pipes back into the tank. This way it is easier to maintain as I only need to remove the sponges & clean them and if any fine particles do find their way through the sponges, it drops down to the bottom of the filter by gravity as the water flows up through the bio media.

Hi Taz, saw the filter sock. Just cross a board across the pond however wide needed and make a hole for the sock collar and run the out take hose into it with a strainer attached to it so not to force the water to harshly through it. Hope that idea helps and like your videos too! Oh and try the bog style filter method since you have everything there just run water bottom up.

In regards to the filter socks, I suggest just buying a smaller storage plastic container. Do two holes/one hole. Let the primary outflow, flow directly into this box. Then have a centre overflow with your old leaky bulkhead (just make sure it is above the water), that is a overflow. That way, you can have an easier time swapping out the filters. You already have a 2x6(?) laying there that you can anchor the set-up to.

You should sell these. I’ve never seen a biological filter like this. Yes you can call it a filter mine cost 300 and it doesn’t have a plant it has a sponge and plastic “bio filter” material and carbon filters. But this is a true bio filter true aquaponics. I’ve watched hours of videos of other designs but yours though could probably expand if someone wanted more plants etc
