Where do you get you earring backs, jump rings, and other various finding for earrings.
pretty! do you have to use liquid clay or could those pieces be attached after the clay is baked with the regular glue adhesive??
@FernMitchHandmade
4 жыл бұрын
Brooke Todd thank you 🥰 absolutely! You can simply add the earring posts with a super glue without adding liquid clay and covering it with clay. I just like the finishing this way because the post is blended on to the earring.
I learned so much watching this! Going to purchase an extruder now! I have recently started baking my posts into the clay and love it, but this liquid clay is very intriguing! What brand is it?
@FernMitchHandmade

Thank you so much for watching 🥰 Yes either sculpey liquid clay or, bake n bond (which is a little thicker) will work really well! Also extruders are amazing! A lot you can do with them.
The cookie cutter is a life saver! Thanks for this :) btw, can I use an oven toaster for polymer clays?

Such a cute idea! You may have answered this but are you propping the cookie cutter up with something so it does not roll while baking? Thanks!

Just lay it down flat, not on its curved edge.
How do you stop it from having mini cracks in the clay after you use the excruder? I’ve really tried to condition it but doesn’t seem to be working!
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
Make sure your clay is nice and soft. Soft clay won’t get cracks.
Hi. Is there any way to avoid cracks on the clay with the extruded?
@FernMitchHandmade
4 жыл бұрын
Make sure your clay is soft! Condition it well 😊
Do you just put the cutters in the oven or do you put them on a baking pan and then put them in the oven?
@FernMitchHandmade
4 жыл бұрын
Yup! I put the cutters in the oven on a baking pan 😊 it holds the shape well.

hello there its sneha from mauritius, i've a question! for how many min you put it in the oven? or can we use a microave??
@FernMitchHandmade

Unfortunately you cannot bake clay in a microwave. I baked these for 1hr in 225-250F
So pretty 😍.. Can we use wood varnish on polymer clay? Plz reply.. I can't understand which type of varnish I need 🙁
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 I’m not sure what you meant by wood varnish but if it’s water based polyurethane, absolutely!
Just a question, do you bake them while on the cutter?🤔
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
Yup, the temperature is low enough not to melt the metal 😊
hello. what clay do you use? you said you bake it for an hour. Isn't it too long? just know that every tipe of clay is required 30 min. max of baking time. thank you for tutorial.
WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE AN EXTRUDER? ANY TIPS?
@FernMitchHandmade
4 жыл бұрын
Forsaken Knowledge Yes! You can always roll out snakes that are even width.
Hello just wondering how come your clay doesn't come out cracked? Do you use Fimo soft?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
Clay is not supposed to crack if you condition them very well 😊 I do use Fimo but Premo and Soufflé are my go to.
Where can I buy an extruded? And do I need it?
@FernMitchHandmade
4 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have the link to the extruder in the description. Any big box craft store will have it. Not necessarily. You can make an even snake by hand.
how long did you bake them for?
@FernMitchHandmade
4 жыл бұрын
I baked them for about 45mins to an hour. I recommend you bake small samples to figure out your ideal temperature and time 😊
can you also use air dry clay to make those earrings?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
I think for hoops, you should be able to 😊
How long do you leave then in the oven and what temperature?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
I leave mine in the oven for an hour. For temperature I recommend looking at your clay packaging. Every clay is different.
Very nice and easy but I don't see the marble affect. I just see gray.

Thank you! It’s very faint on these ones.
What type of clay are you using that you baked for an hour at 225?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
It’s Premo and soufflé. I bake mine at 225F due to the spikes on my old oven.
What size circle cutter is that?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
It’s about 3.2cm
What size is the cutter ? Is it like 1.5 inches ?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s about 1.25” 😊
I love your videos!! I tried hoops for the first time today, baked at 275 for 1 hour and then after they cooler I did the clay bending test that I do with other shapes to make sure they are nice and strong and they broke. Do you ever test yours and if so, do you know why they may be snapping?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🥰 Mine are usually very flexible. I leave hoops in the oven to cool down. Do you use an oven thermometer? Make sure your temperature is correct. Also try leaving it a little longer, maybe because hoops are little chunky it takes longer.
Do we have any other alternative of keeping them in oven?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
You can fuse the edges of the hoop together and make a complete circle. This way you won’t lose the shape

Hello girl thanks for your video and Im a new subscriber. And also Im starting to do earrings. You have a very nice earrings. Could You please make more videos and I been having a little problem with my clay I can see it has bubbles when Im trying to manipulate it and also when I put it in the oevn.
@FernMitchHandmade
4 жыл бұрын
Hello 🥰 I’m so glad you are enjoying my tutorials. To avoid bubbles make sure you condition your clay well. Sometimes way too soft clay trap air and create bubbles too! If you have soft clay, leave it on a piece of printer paper for 20mins. It should take off some moisture. If you see some on your raw clay just pop it off with a needle and blend. For baked pieces you can sand it. I hope this helps 😊
Does anyone’s clay crack when it comes out thr extruder?
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
Make sure you condition your clay very well. Fimo is notorious for being hard to extrude. You can add a drop of baby oil to make your clay soft. I hope this helps.

@@FernMitchHandmade any tips of trying to condition it well enough? I don’t have baby oil I cornflour okay?
@FernMitchHandmade

Any mineral oil would work and also If you have any liquid clay you can try adding that. I believe cornflour will make it dryer.
one hour??? ive been told to never cook over 30 minutes
@FernMitchHandmade
3 жыл бұрын
Most makers do it for at least one hour. Just what we found out from our experiences. As long as you keep your temperature steady around 225-275F (use a thermometer) you cannot burn polymer clay.
It's difficult to see what you are doing because there is a lot of grit on your lens or something. Also, your hands are not on the screen a lot of the time so I can't see what you are doing. Pretty earrings.
