The pivoting uprights are 7 3/4 inches apart on center of the bolts on the bottom and 5 1/2 inches apart where they connect to the extension rod. The nose of the cylinder is 5 1/2 inches up from the base and the hole where the rod end of the cylinder attaches to the pivot rod is 10 1/2 inches from the end that attaches to the base.

All my pneumatics that run on their own with a motion sensor are located within my graveyard behind the fence. The spider will be placed so that he will not extend over the fence to make sure that he will not be in contact with any trick or treaters.

Wow - Great Job. I have not started to haunt with pneumatic props yet - I don't understand the logistics of it (The size of the tanks needed per prop the noise created by the compressor ... etc) Can't wait to see how that comes to play as THE DAY comes closer.

My spider is placed behind my cemetery fence and stops just before it crosses the fence line to prevent that exact thing from happening.

Please post a video of it when you do. I'd love to see it!

@tzkelley My plan was that he will blend in when he's at rest. This will be placed near my porch which has enough light to illuminate him as he leaps up to the top of the graveyard fence. Of course, once I get him into place with all the lighting, I may have to make adjustments as I never seemed to be satisfied with a prop the first time.

I don't suppose I cod get the measurements for all the pieces and placements? I want to build this.

You should add more Psi to make a better effect. I made a different type and the psi make a difference of the scaring from ok to high

By far the best I've seen, keep up the good work. I've been trying to build my own props, but fail. What would you need to begin building and creating animatronics?

Looks awesome! The movement is perfect and it'll scare the crap out of people when they come by! Great idea to paint the whole thing black to help hide it but do you worry the black spider might also be hidden? Would a gray or tan one be easier to see while still keeping the mechanism hid?

I have a light placed to illuminate the area at the end of the spiders travel so that it is easy to see him (and scare you)!

Is this alluminum ? I've done a previous build with steel and had some trouble with flow controlling it. Thanks , Ryan

Got a question though: how did you figure out the measurements, specifically that the two uprights need to be of different lengths and that they are 7.75" apart on the bottom and 5.50" apart on top - is there some site or virtual modeling software , or is it simply trial and error? I ask because it would be cool if there was an animated machine drawing site (similar to 507 Movements, like this pantograph animation 507movements.com/mm_246.html ) where one could figure out such things by modeling it , virtually...
