DIY Photo Ring Light! (EASY 3D PRINTING PROJECT!)

Ғылым және технология

Randomfrankp recently showed off an awesome RGB ring light that is perfect for product photography in his April "Cool Tech Under $50" video. The only problem is that it sold out almost immediately. Time for 3D printing to come to the rescue again! With only a few grams of PLA and an LED strip that I purchased from my local discount store, I was able to make my own for only $7!
A big thank you to Elegoo for sending their new Neptune 2 to me in order to make this video! This little printer packs an awesome punch and can be purchased for only $160! If you're in the market for a new 3D printer, be sure to check it out here: amzn.to/3ft0s8j
To make this project, you will need the following things:
- 1 RGB LED Strip (I picked mine up from Five Below (not sponsored), but you can also grab them online here): amzn.to/2PoVT4o
- Black PLA: amzn.to/3gCnjik
- Clear PLA: amzn.to/3vlur74
- STL Files: www.thingiverse.com/thing:484...
If you'd instead like to get the RGB light shown off in randomfrankp's video, you can grab it here (when it's back in stock!): amzn.to/3evWBoX

What have you made with your 3D printer when you couldn’t find a part in the store?

I think this ring light would benefit from a smaller LED pitch, this would create a more uniform light. There are addressable LED-Strips with up to 144 LEDs/m. I also made some Nanoleaf Panels and some tube lights. Not because they were out of stock, but in my opionion they were too expensive and I could learn some stuff while building them myself.

For sure, the denser the better! Unfortunately my local Five Below did not have LED strips with closer spacing, but a switch the Neopixels could expand this project a bit and also allow for custom light patterns!

Is it bright enough to use in versatile situations?

This one is primarily intended for small product photography, but the brightness is great at this size! For a larger diameter version, it may make sense to switch to a high density strand of WS2812 (Neopixel) LEDs, but the design can definitely be scaled up or down depending on a specific need!

Lot more enjoyable if you mute the video.
