DIY Painted Warp
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I'm showing. you how to paint a cotton warp with watercolour paint!
Watercolour Palette: Michaels Craft Stores
8/8 Cotton Warp: spruceandlinen.com/collection...
Loom: spruceandlinen.com/collection...
Extra Tips:
-if using a blow dryer to dry the warp you DO NOT want it to be hot. You can
also let the warp air dry.
-do not use the blow dyer on the wax paper, this will transfer wax onto your loom (use plastic wrap on ends if you're worried).
-painted warps are best for balanced twills (balanced meaning you have the same amount of warp strings per inch as you do weft strings per inch). A great yarn to pair with this double warp would be Bernat Handicrafter Cotton, this yarn is slightly thicker than 8/8 cotton.

OooooooH! Can see how GORGEOUS this could be using thick, textural yarns, Saori-style for the weft! Please continue to show us where you go with this piece. Thanks so much for this INSPIRATION, Jenell!

I would definitely love to try this with an even chunkier warp!
I've used permanent fabric markers to paint my warp strings. It helps if they have a wide point.

That’s a great idea as well!
Hi Jenell, I hope you're OK xx ❣ I never thought about Painting Warp. I think this idea would work on something like having a sort of Landscape Wallhanging. 🖼 Thankyou for sharing this idea. Happy Weaving. Take care and stay safe. Lots of love Jen 💘 xx
LOVE this!!

Thank you!
Interesting. Would be great to have a part 2 to see what you do with it. I'm not sure I understand how painting the warp will enhance the weaving given the majority of the warp will be covered by weft. Thanks!

Maybe for exposed warp pieces? Could be very beautiful

This would be a piece you'd definitely want to be a balanced cloth (same amount of warp strings per inch as weft strings per inch) so that the warp can be seen. Twills are ideal ☺️
Interesting, thank you, great job!

Thanks!
Want to try this.
There is liquid watercolor which might work well, but more expensive since you might want many colors. I was thinking spraying the paint might be faster. Great idea to paint the warp!
I can’t wait to try this! Now I know what I’m doing this weekend :) Hmmm I wonder how watered-down acrylics would look..Thanks for the inspiration

That could work! Give it a try!
Can you confirm that the color from the watercolor remains over time, ie does not fade over time? I would think that dye would be more long lasting so I am curious as to if watercolor will last because it is SO much easier to use.
I would have used tie dye or if using wool then acid dyes (dhama trading) rather than watercolour - if only so I can wash it after

Yes that's a great idea if you're wanting to wash! Since this was for a woven wall hanging I didn't need it to be washable ☺️
What does it look like after weaving?
So when are you doing part 2?
