DIY Mushroom Hat ✦ Recycled Materials
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I'll show you how to make a mushroom hat, inspired by the beautiful Fly Agaric/Amanita Muscaria mushroom. I'm using only recycled materials and things I already had in my collection, so this DIY mushroom hat cost me $0 :D
After many requests, I turned my template into a digital pattern that you can print at home.

Hi! Which paper dimensions did u use for printing the pattern?
Hey guys the diameter is roughly 13 inches if u split it in 4 sections there should be 4 pieces pof cardboard to glue in each section its a lil off but I did a cut every 4 inches and made the slit about an inch wide do 2 sets of slits one being smaller then the other so example big, small, big, small, etc. I made 4 trying to get measurements I saw some of you were having same issue first one I made looked like a lily pad

@@blue5740 I believe they mixed up diameter and radius. At a radius of 13/14 inches it would be approx 65/70cm diameter respectively. I have one im making that's 12 inches radius and that comes to about 60cm

@DrRippenShitten Diameter is double the radius so the radius will be around 32.5/35 so ye your correct. Well done :D
I got invited to a Halloween party by this girl I have a crush on, and her only request was that I wear a costume. Now I know what I'm gonna wear!! Wish me luck ✌️✌️ Update as of 11/9: Ok so bad and good news. Bad news: I had strep the week of her party so I couldn't go and show off my dope mushroom costume. Good news: she was bummed about it and invited me to a uni volleyball game the week after where costumes were encouraged, and it was just the two of us 😳😳 We haven't gotten together officially or talked about it, but tbh I'm just glad I got to hang out with her and get to know her better. I think if she decides to stay in my town after graduation I'll ask her out and just hope for the best🤞🤞

Sorry it took so long, but I ran into some problems. For starters, my hat is roughly twice the size as hers. In step 1, my circle had a diameter of 41 inches. So, I did a mockup to make sure it was going to work. I also recommend using duck tape instead. This hasn't changed anything other than making it sturdier. For the paper, I struggled to get as much as I needed. I suggest getting about 1 grocerie bag if it is the same size as hers. I have so far gotten to the second layer of paper mucha (sorry, i can't spell). The first layer on the outside took 8 hours to dry, and the inside layer took 12. The second layer outside took 6, and the inside was put on at the same time as the outside and not dry. (After the first layer, you can do this if you have time, but if you have the time, don't) That's all for now, but feel free to ask questions!
This is beautiful Tash! And the fact you only used recycled materials touches my environmental soul. The clips from 5:36 onwards showing the finished product are incredible.

Love your hat !!! 1:28 Or, you can also do the following : 1.) Measure your head. 2.) Inflate balloon. 3.) Wrap measuring tape around balloon 4) Release air slowly until you reach the desired size. Best balloons are high quality pear shaped. Paper Mache the balloon's upper half. Trim dried shell. The resulting shell / scull cap is so comfortable you'll forget you're even wearing a hat! An added plus is people think you're crazy and with any luck will leave you alone and depart from your personal space.

@@wishfullx I didnt. I cut giant a circle from cardboard and then cut lines going into the center (it looked like a flower or the sun). I cut a little bit off from each center so it would curve when Iglued then together. I practiced with smaller pieces of paper first to see what it would like.

Natasha this is such a cute video! I went to a renaissance festival earlier this year and saw a few people walking around with mushroom hats on :) this seems like the perfect craft to do while watching tv... avatar the last airbender is my crafting show.. unfortunately, I've not had much time to craft and watch it because of school but now that I'm on break maybe soon :) also, it made me kind of sad seeing your cut up that beautiful lace curtain but It totally made the gils look so unique and cool! I also love the dew drops you made! super cute :) I have a bunch of prisms hanging from my windows to cast rainbows in the morning 🌈🍄

It’s impossible to be sad with rainbows coming in the window 🌈✨

I've seen it way too many times haha
Amazing tutorial!! Really looks like a real mushroom! Can I ask how long it took to make this?
I thank you
So, you can actually make paper clay paste out of drywall compound, flour, paper, and glue. Just make sure to soak the paper in boiling hot water for 24 hours before hand. Makes it nice and soft. "Ultimate Paper Mache" has a great tutorial for this recipe on her channel, plus tips on how to care for and store it. Hope this is helpful!

This is such an amazingly made hat, I'm in love! A quick question: You say that you experimented with the shape to get the best curve for the hat, do you have any tips for drafting your own pattern?
@natasharose
2 жыл бұрын
I finally made a pattern, its linked in the description box :) If you want to draft your own, examine the cross-sections of mushrooms to get a feel for the shape of them, and experiment on a smaller scale.
If i wanted to put in lights should i do it under or over the gills
