Brad- please please keep this up. Your videos are seriously the best of the best. Simple clear calm instruction with DETAIL. You aren’t skipping over the mechanics. Or assuming the viewer knows something they don’t. And the digital circling of the areas you are describing and added text and images really helps. Obviously you are putting a LOT of time and thought into your videos. You will explode on KZread at some point. I’m positive of that. and in the meantime just know what you are doing for those lucky enough to have found you already is very much appreciated!!

Thank you very much. Yes I wish I could put out a video every week but the style builds I like to do take time and patients lol. It would be cool if the channel turned into something but honestly when I just want others to take a leap and build something nice for their reptiles/amphibians and themselves. The videos I do take about 2 weeks of editing as well. I try to make sure everything is included. I guess when I started building this style 10+ years ago there wasn't much out there. So I had to teach myself. Wanting to save others the frustration of trial and error. But today we are lucky enough to have a lot of other good creators that help teach others and pust the creativity and art of building. Hope you have fun building your own!

@@bradsbioactivebuilds I definitely understand the time issue and I’m grateful you have made the time for the ones you did. I’ve made the leap and am well into my very first enclosure! So far so good! I’m trying to not go too crazy but I certainly want it to have functioning basics and of course beauty. As an artist and a perfectionist I am truly enjoying the process. I’m looking at the supplies I will have left over and am absolutely sure my daughters lemon blast python is the next critter to next to get an upgrade! 😆

That's a normal response for someone that is trying to offer the best care for any new animal in my opinion. If you were nervous you wouldn't care. I'm sure you will do great. Also they are pretty hardy reptiles compared to others. Things I found to be important were basking temp between 120 and 145 depending on age. Mine likes the ambient around 90f when he is not basking. Mine doesn't like to burrow quite yet but has 12-14" of substrate if desired. I have relatively higher humidity in some spots of 65% and others in the 30 % range. Created as many micro climates as possible so he has options. Good luck and have fun

Your videos really set the high mark for enclosure builds! Please keep making innovative videos. I am interested in better ventilation for my first build - being able to actively circulate air within the enclosure as well as bring in outside air in seems like it would benefit the health of the animal and the extra breeze might be stimulating to a smart critter like an Ackie.

I agree with you 100% on circulating the existing air in the enclosure instead of pulling it from outside the enclosure. I also have a paludarium video I recently uploaded that I built internal airducts inside the paludarium that shows how the air circulates with the fogger. thanx again for watching.

This is acctually my favourite video of DIY terrariums out there on youtube. I'm an ex model builder and have some experience with carpenting as well and I always wonderd why so few people use styrofoam as backgrounds. I tried making a background using only sprayfoam, like many people do, but I found it very expensive, time consuming and just a pain. I instead use styrofoam like you do and then paint it with grout, but I also like to paint parts of it with pigments making it more realistic before drybrushing.

Hey Brad! I love this build and this video is a frequent rewatch of mine. Couple questions if you don’t mind: 1. How have the plants been doing since this video? 2. Has the cleanup crew been effective? 3. I’m used to using silicone to attach things to enclosure walls; is spray foam stronger as an adhesive? 4. If you could go back and change anything, what would you do differently? I can’t wait to see what else you pump out. I can easily see you becoming one of the “big” channels like Serpa. Also, would you ever consider doing an enclosure for bigger monitors? Like a Savannah monitor?

glad you are getting a lot from the video Ill answer your questions to the best I can. 1. the plants have been doing very well. the one in the top left corner in the plant holder has been replaced 2x. for some reason this is the one spot my Ackie likes to dig up. not sure if a feeder insect keeps going in there or not. so I will give it sometime before I replant. I have also added a few other plants to fill in a little more like aloe plants and some other succulents. 2. the clean up crew has been doing amazing. almost to many. this enclosure has had the biggest culture I have ever had in an enclosure. I literally use this enclosure for my isopod culture. I have seeded 3 other enclosures with it and there is still 500 plus. I'm going to stop feeding them zucchini lol. I was surprised how well they took off in an arid environment. 3. I have used both. but with pvc board i found silicone (100%silicone also make sure it bonds to PVC. they sell a good one at home depo by the plexi glass section. its made by GE and it comes in a white and red tube. or lexel adhesive would work good. Just make sure it cures well) I found regular silicone doesn't stick very well to pvc and spray foam had a hard time bonding to pvc as well. I do however spray foam xps board to xps board. It makes carving a lot easier. 4. If I could change something I would have added an arch from one of the ledges to another ledge for appearance purposes. Im removing the mistking nozzle and added a custom built fan. I did add 2 1" vents in the front right hot side that have 1" plugs so I can help regulate temperature in different parts of the year. I also added mosquito mesh to the 3" vents on the side like I did in my Blue Tree Monitor enclosure. i also replaced the cheap Menards hardware store plant light for a arcadia 34w led bar (Jungle dawn). ove of the ledges I would have extended out about 3-4" where he likes to watch over his domain lol. I will be doing this at some point. not sure when though. I will just cut the xps board and stray foam on the new piece and tie it in. to answer your question about doing an enclosure for a bigger monito. I have been planning one in my head for sometime now. keep watching new content and it might answer your question.....🤞 thanx for good questions and have fun with your build 💯🦎

@@jaywimmer8360 i personally have not found the need to seal it with anything. Although some people have used a a clear polyurethane. I have a few other builds I have done before I stated making videos that are holding up very well. Still look the same as when I finished them. Even the water falls are holding strong. For maintenance/ spot cleaning I use a toothbrush to scrub them down and it has no pealing or dull effect. When I start building a 10x6x5 water monitor enclosure I'll use morter (bc of nails) instead of foam and do a coat of drylok over the morter. Any other questions feel free to ask.

The center deep heat projector (DHP) is for night time heart. The light all the way to the right is ambient light for plants and the rest of the enclosure to keep the right side lite up. PVC is very hard to find in Canada for some reason, our local Lowe's only has 3/8 4x8s for example and Home Depot doesn't carry PVC sheets at all but I don't know if 3/8 is enough to keep the thing sturdy. Your videos are amazing! Please keep this up! You are killing it! I will be using this as a build for a beardie! Could you help me figure out the substrate that is great for an adult beardie? If the enclosure is 6X3X3 Pvc board, that will be structurally ok to hold an adult beardie? Also, could they use a water tray for their bathroom? I love you other videos with built in plumbing and ease of cleaning!

Thank you! There are many helpful Facebook groups for beardie's and substrate. But I think the ratio I used would be great. Although some people say not to use loose substrate and others say to not, not use loose substrate. Yes a 6x3x3 will be structurally secure. Especially if you use xps board as a background. It adds a lot of support and looks cool. I wouldn't see why you couldn't use a water tray at the bottom. Yes, I'm looking forward to the day I can use the plumbing with easy cleaning. Should be any week now 🤞 Thanx for your support! 🤘💯🦎🐸🐍🐢🌱

@OliviaBob29 of course. And I thought I was going to have a hard time with keeping isopods alive. But I created a few microclimate throughout where they can seek refuge. Honestly, this enclosure had no problem with isopods staying alive. I was using it for a while to seed other enclosures.

Yes, the XPS board is an insulation board. Also, for an Argus monitor I would use a concrete or Zoopoxy over they xps insulation board instead of drylok. For this sized monitor, this nails will most likely do right through drylok. I'm currently building a large enclosure and will be using Zoopoxy because of the size not the monitor that will be going into it. I'll be releasing the 1st video of the series this weekend. 🤘💯🦎🐍🐢🐸

@Hanschanhs the bottom damn and top header are doubled up (in total 1"). They do seem thicker pvc trim board just not in 4x8 sheets. I think the max height is like 10nor 12 inches. So if you can get away with that, it would be the way to go. But any higher you'll need to double up.

The smart plugs/ timers I use is a product called govee (link in description) It controls my lights, heat and can monitor humidity (I do believe they sell on that will add humidity (if you have a fogger set up to it)). The misting system uses the mistking timer that it comes with. I did add a shutoff valve to the mistking hose so I can have it mist when I want to bump humidity only because I do not want daily mistkings in this enclosure. Hope thos helps 🤘💯🦎🐸🐍🐢🌱

That's cool your building one for your some! To answer your question, no. I just used sprayfoam (it's pretty much the same thing as gorilla glue just on a foam material.) But after it did cure I added more spray foam around the ledge where it meets the background if that makes sense. (Make sure you pull off the outer layer of spray foam, the smooth skin part). You would be surprised how strong it is all things concerned. Hope this helps!

It depends on how much carving and detail you want in the background (foam board) I went with 2 inches and after carving some spots were about a 1/2 inch thin. It's kinda like a haircut. You can always take off more lol. A drill with a wire brush really helps. You can also use wood skewers, mark them 1 or 2 inches then stick them into the foam to see how deep you have carved.

@Kelcee Holt there are a lot of different variables that go into it. Like how big each piece is and will it support the weight. You can always get 1 inch xps board and double it up. A 1 inch 4x8 would be half the price. I did build a hardscape out of the cheap Styrofoam like 13 years ago, and it held up, but I used a few layers of grout over it. It was for a Bearded Dragon.
