Hi Jim. Good job. Points are ok on a standard engine but if it's tuned like yours and mine you need electronic ignition. My mate years ago had a Lotus escort,yes a real one, he spent more time with his head under the carbs adjusting the points than he did driving it. It will be like driving a modern car, electric fuel pump and electronic ignition it'll start first time every time.By the way he swapped that Escort for a MK1 3 litre Capri in a pub one night, he still regrets it to this day.

I couldn't agree more Phil, oooh lotus escort! I like the mk1 capri but come on!! Saying that I swapped an early mk2 golf gti for an e36 325 at a motorway services and I still regret it

Where we can buy those electric ignition unit ? Any part number or model number for serch?

I purchased it through ebay, Its for a lucas 45D distributor if it recall.

good job mate ,have you seen the sonic cleaners ? i have one and ill demonstrate it working when i do the special tool video i said i would do,i have yet to decide whether to stay original or go electronic,i suppose electronic if im using it daily and original for a show car,new vid being shot this weekend mate.

I'd love one of those cleaners, a friend of mine did the carb for me years ago. I'm interested in seeing yours! I'm glad I went electronic because its fit and forget which helps with daily or occasional use but I had it on points for the first few years with no issues. How are you doing?

@@jimbuilds not bad now mate just getting all the medical stuff that happens every year out the way now things are allowed out of lockdown teeth feet doctors etc and we are caravanners so desperately ready for a break,hope you and your family safe and ok mate.

Was there any play on the main spindle ?

Totally useless video the time of which ( five minutes) I will never get back. Diabolical video quality, hands obscuring the removal part most of the time....good bye.
