    It looks cool! I was checking out my attic in my old house and it looks big for a conversion into a room or at least a hang out space / storage space since the pitch is pretty tall and it spans a good 700 sqft at least, just gotta plaster around the old fireplace in the middle

    Very impressed with the work carried out! Why did you go for the wooden joist support as opposed to steel beams? I think you did a great job and it feels like its more practical and makes more sense this way, and I'm hoping to do something similar, if I can use wooden joists it would save me a lot of height as my loft is a low ceiling. Is it just down to load bearing walls or was the engineer happy to use wooden joists how you did to support the floor better than steel beams?

    Hi Dan, looks like an amazing conversion, well done! Any chance you would be willing to share your technical/structal plan drawings? I'm at uni doing an engineering course atm and we are studying loft conversions and have been told to try and contact people who have had ones and look as the drawings to learn from them. It would really help me out if you could, please elet me know, thankyou!

    For me it actually cost me more to do it myself. I think that it was that I did it as I could afford it. It was also a bit of a learning curve! Still worth it at sign off.

    @@diydan1394 Hi Dan, the quote was low £20k, ended up costing me almost £30k. Had to re do some of the work the initial builders did before decided to do myself, as building control were not happy with workmanship.

    Very nice mate good job. I know you have done it but all the research I've done before watching your video on loads of sites say you don't need planning permission as long as it dose not surpass the the rest of the building width wise. Did your architect recommend this put forward to council thanks but we'll done

  • @diydan1394

    @diydan1394

    I didn't need planning permission but the plans were submitted so the council could see exactly what I planned to do and to ensure this got signed off as an official bedroom. I kept in close contact with the council and had them out to check each part I did so at the end of the build they had already seen all the structural work undertaken this made it quicker and easier for them to sign off.

  • @diydan1394

    The house is split into two section of two rooms one ground floor and one first floor and in the middle of these room runs two walls top to bottom of the house where the first floor stairs are housed. We desided to runs a parallel set of stairs above the original in the space, this has very little disruption to the original first floor rooms. 😊
