DIY Kayak Flag with a Twist! Literally!

Спорт

If you operate in an area with boat traffic, a DIY kayak flag pole is a great idea to avoid the cost of a more expensive kayak flag and alert boaters to your presence. My DIY kayak safety flag has a twist to it since it rotates down to get out of the way using a kayak flag mount based on a PVC gear head.

to tighten the pivot joint, instead of the tape, you can coat the loose part with PVC glue and let it dry. Once it has completely dried re-assemble and the joint will be tight.

Great hack ! I would insert the flag through a cap on the PVC upright. split the shaft on the flag and pack epoxy around it inside the cap. That should eliminate the wire and give it a bit more finished appearance.

You could also put foam pipe insulation in the hollow spaces in the PVC to aid in flotation if you tip and fall into the drink. This is a great idea about a Diy safety flag, and as always thanks for the video

Lots of great hack ideas here. Another way is to use a wine cork and drill a hole for the flag. Then shove it in and pour in liquid resin. I had an old Scotty mount and 1/2 PVC fits the horizontal hole so you could just use one 90 elbow and one pvc piece plus the flag and the wine cork.

Please add Reflective Tape on both the vertical sections of your flag pole, as well as front and back of your paddles. I use the white section of the red/white DOT trailer markers sold at Harbor Freight. Six bucks makes you stand out like a lit up Christmas tree if even a weak light is pointed at you (the unique pattern of reflections produced when you are paddling is remarkable). Great for dawn and dusk or even dead of night to protect you from boat traffic.

Another inexpensive idea! 👍. Instead of drilling a hole, and messing with the epoxy, I'd look for a pvc reducer fitting, maybe 2 needed, to step (reduce) the size down as close as possible to the flag shaft, then glue it together. Just a thought. :) The folding part is a great idea. I need that function on the rods behind me that I keep snagging when casting. 🤔

I would think as long as it is above your head is would be ok. The YakAttack pole is 48 inches. That's probably a good height to use.

@@KayakhacksFishing - first off, I'm seriously loving this rotating pole hack!! Can't wait to incorporate this into my overall 'design'. I'm running two flags on my pole, so I go with a 24" schedule 40 pvc 'base', with a 48" fiberglass driveway marker. But, 6" of the marker is epoxied down into the schedule 40 pipe, through a center cap. So, my overall height is 24" + 48" + 4" (schedule 40 male to female screw-in connector) + 2" (metal threaded compression fitting) - 6" (driveway marker into schedule 40 pvc), bringing it to a total height of 72". I bought 2x the materials, and am going to incorporate a top 360 visibility stern light into my next build. Oh, and 'just in case', I have 30" of 'large' pool noodle fitted around the sched. 40 pipe, m/f screw-in connector, & compression base.
