I've been to JeonJu when I visited Korea about 3 years ago. It is a beautiful place! I don't know where you are but you should try to visit one of Green Tea plantations in Boseong; definitely worth it!

Ya’ll are starting a ‘round the world trip soon, right? 😊

In general, there are two reasons to go sightseeing in Jeonju. Korean traditional food. However, there are various ways and procedures for Korean food. For example, makgeolli should shake the bottle and then fill the glass. And you have to wrap tofu and meat in kimchi and eat it at once. Most Koreans know this order. It's sad if the restaurant didn't explain this. 2-Jeonju is famous for Hanok Village. It is a common course to look around Hanok Village wearing hanbok. Because the village is big, I rent a small cart and look around. It is mainly a course for foreign tourists or young couples. Mural village is just a cute mural. Hahaha... Korea is not a place to enjoy cheap prices like Southeast Asia, and it is not a place to expect something extreme in the city. Experience traditional Korean culture such as Jeonju, Gyeongju, shopping and city tour in big cities such as Seoul, Busan and Incheon, or experience nature such as Gangwon, Jeju, and Ulleungdo. Anyway, I hope you two have a good trip

I agree. Korea is the most expensive country in Asia along with Japan. It is difficult to expect proper service if go to cheap accommodation and restaurants. It's sad if the restaurant they went to didn't explain how to eat properly. Customer service would have been different even if went to a restaurant above the intermediate level. Anyway, I feel that their atmosphere is different from that of Vietnam... I hope they experienced various cafe culture, night culture, and shopping culture in Korea when they were in Seoul or Busan...

We ended up figuring out the part about shaking the makgeolli 😅 Definitely aware of dressing up in hanbok, but that’s just not for us, we are content walking and admiring the Hanok Village (we stayed in an old house there).

To be honest, the appearance at the restaurant was as shocking as eating a hamburger separately, patty, and lettuce separately! Haha.. Those little dishes are blanchan (not how you spell it) but basically it’s complementary side dishes. Most places will refill them.

Before leaving Jeonju, must try "Hanjungshik". Han= Korean Jungshik= formal meal or full course meal. Jeonju is the birth place of Korean classic meal.

Thanks for showing you mixing bibimbap. People here can finally become comfortable watching it lol I hope not so many people tell you guys what to do. I sometimes eat bibimbap without mixing it, and it tastes good.

Yeah, but not the best way to enjoy it because when the Gochujang source and all other ingredients mixed evenly well, that’s the beauty of the Bibimbap’s tastes. However, if you want small portion, stronger taste, or more veges and less rice, etc., you can mix some of the portion with more/less Gochujang but the point is a little bit of all ingredients need to be mixed.

Hi Tia 😊 The yellow jelly is called Cheongpomuk. It made by Mung Bean starch and color is from gardenia seeds. In the past it was used as a feast food because it's quite difficult to make and good way to take a protein. Unfortunately It doesn't have any taste So usually we eat that with sauce Poor English 😭

Excellent English to explain CheongPoMuk I ever seen!!! Great job! Perfect! Fun fact, the CheongPoMuk is quite a rare food so the Kings and Queens enjoyed it as a delight on their food. Imagine a bright royal goldy yellow thing mixed with green and red on your dinner table at back then. C? ^^b

Raw beef itself is also served as delicacies. Fresh raw beef is my favorite Korean food.

The 막걸리(its pronounced mak-geol-li) you tasted is actually Korean beer like light alcohol, usually made from rice ( but not always). The variety you had actually has live probiotics in it, while the stuff you get at supermarkets usually has those killed off, to preserve it for a longer period. From the base 막걸리 you can make traditional rice wine and distill it to make traditional soju ( not the cheap green ones you get at supermarkets but ones that are made in the traditional way). Jeonju, the town you are at (한옥마을), actually has a museum devoted to Korean traditional alcohols and you can purchase alcohols there you can’t usually get at supermarkets in Korea. You might want to check it out. Try the 이강주 (lee gang ju), another alcohol only made in the Jeonju region, its really good (about 25%alcohol).

@@OnePackWanderers Makgeolli is the base for all Korean alcohols, from rice wine to soju, at least the traditional ones. Korean wine is usually filtered makgeolli, depending on how you make it. Its just that traditional alcohol is usually not available at supermarkets, although they can be bought online and some select shops. If you want to purchase some before going to your next destination, I can provide some addresses of places in Seoul where you can purchase.

Now you need that hangover soup I mentioned. Go to the market in the morning to r grab one. You might see some of those guys from the bar the other night.

The Korean food looks so good! I love bibimbap, but I've never been to Korea haha

Bibimbap is supper healthy dish and it was a Michael Jackson's favorite Korea food.

We love poke so much! Shockingly, we have decent poke in MN (not as good as Hawaii, of course). Those bibimbap rice bowls look delicious! We were relieved that Tia didn't spill her ice cream popsicle on her white shirt. 😂😂😂

Poke is the best! You kind of some of the best parts of sushi for, often, a fraction of the price. The white shirt lives another day... 😂

전주에 놀러갔을때 비빔밥 먹으러 한국집에 갔었는데 신기하게도 같은 자리에 앉으셔서 더 친근감이 느껴지네요. ㅎㅎ

I think it would be awesome if every country I went to when I order that the staff in restaurant would explain how to pronounce the dishes and how to eat them like a local! It's very difficult to know how to pronounce their words but we try our best. I often wish they would provide their recommendations too for us to try as most restaurants have a signature dish.

Consider visiting Daejeon. Nice mix of nightlife and nature. Also has a similar neighborhood filled with mural art.

Indeed. Korea is much more calm and sterile in comparison to SEA, and I think that definitely comes through in the videos. We miss it too, in some ways! But after 8 months in SEA, it was time to move on (for now, we will certainly go back).

The mural village is a short walk from the Hanok Village of Jeonju, a place you will most likely visit when you're there! Once you're in the area, a local will point you in the right direction if you ask about the mural village. Have fun in Jeonju! 😊

In our country, it is considered personal preference. In Korea it seems to matter much more. We are learning, at least 😅 I just hope people don't feel offended by us.

Wow !! so great trip !!! I watched your full vedio , I have a place to recommend a trip to Jeollado. "The Jinan Maisan Tapsa Temple [진안 마이산 탑사] and "Buan Gyeokpo Chae Seok-gang Rias coast Beach [ 부안 격포 채석강 리아스식 해안 ] are also great places in North Jeolla Province. The Jinan Maisan Tapsa Temple is a 30 minute bus ride from Jeonju, which is a relatively close distance. The numerous stone pagodas in Tapsa Temple in Maisan represent the " Eumyang-Oh-haeng[ 음양오행] "of Korea and are the most unique, mysterious, and beautiful temples in Korea. The Jinan Maisan Tapsa temple is so famous overseas that it is listed in the British tourist guidebook Lonely Planet. If you have chance ,I hope you to travel Jinan Maisan Tapsa Temple. In the case of Jinan Maisan, it is a destination that Western Europeans and foreigners would love to visit. There is a very mysterious and beautiful temple[ 탑사]. I wish you all the best.

Jeonjuhyanggyo Local Confucian School(전주향교) has a very long history and is famous as a Korean drama filming site, and the ginkgo tree that is more than hundreds of years old is impressive. "Omokdae (오목대)" has a very long history, too, and there is an observatory where you can see the whole Jeonju Hanok Village. It would be a great pity not to visit there~~^^ I hope you have a wonderful trip to Korea~~^^

Bibimbab is origin of poke Because when japan invaded korea many korean forced to move to Japan and do the hard work and later, when Japanese moved to Hawaii they got idea from it they selling poke in Hawaii

Poke actually has origins predating Japanese contact with Hawaii. Japan influenced modern poke, but Hawaiians were eating a poke-like dish for a long time (I used to live there so I learned about it).

Hi! thanks for the video! As a Korean, I rather recommend visiting Yeosu, Namhae or Kyungju instead of Jeonju (Not sure why many tourists visit Jeonju as it is pretty sleepy nothing much to do or to see city) Or JIri Mountain area, Korea is the best in Fall/Autumn (Mid October) as many gingko and maple trees are abundant, Believe me!

🤔 Is it redundant for Koreans to have Bibimbap then more banchan automatically served on the side when there's usually more than enough salty banchan in the Bibimbap already? And please, thoroughly learn the proper pronunciations of foreign names, phrases, and places first then just say them aloud with confidence! 😉

just to add... you have to use spoon to mix bibimpop... most foreigners use chopstick. But that will not mix really well on all the different seasonings. If you'll be eating bibimpop again, be sure to use spoon ^^

Ha! Of course we fight like any couple. But we also don't put on a show for the camera. I'm sure you and your girlfriend have a great relationship, the sweet moments just probably aren't caught on camera so it's not as obvious. As for traveling and not getting sick of each other. We worked together for a couple years before going on this trip, so we were lucky enough to figure out how to be around each other 24/7 a while ago 😂

You need to eat pork, kimchi together or kimchi with tofu together to get a real taste. If you learn little bid of Korean ways, you'll enjoy more of food and places. It seems you guys are just exploring without knowing the ways which makes it hard to really enjoy. It's about how to eat rather than just tasting individually.

Because your girlfriend is Japanese-American, she pronounce the name of the food in Japanese way. But it's not polite to Korean/Korean food. Please pronounce the correct food name. You can ask the staff at the restaurant. It's not "MAGURO". And "Chili" is pronounced "Gochujang."...... It's a basic courtesy.

적당히좀 하세요 이 한심한 인간들아. 마구로라고 한게 아니라 mackerel 이라고 완벽하게 영어로 얘기했구만 뭔 일본말을 했다고 트집을 잡아. 무식하면 가만히라도 있지 Maguro같은소리 하고있네 ㅋㅋ 그리고 서양권에서 살다가 와서 매운거는 다 칠리라고 하지 고추장이라고 꼭 배우고 말해야됨?? 고추를 서양에서 칠리라고 하는데 한국인이 서양 여행가서 익숙한 단어로 얘기할때마다 외국인이 와서 영어로 바꿔서 말하지 않으면 예의없는거다라고 딴지잡는다고 생각을 해보시지 그게 얼마나 몰상식한 인간인지.. 이런 관광객분들은 대환영인데.. Please dont mind these ignorant comments. You guys are doing great in Korea.

You guys are having a hard time making videos. Because there is not much to see and enjoy in Korean tourist attractions. Korean tourist attractions are full of similar services provided by people who flock to make money. 😎

We are having fun. I think many of the people that watch these videos have been taken off guard because traveling in a country like Korea is a much different process than traveling by motorbike in a place like Vietnam. One is much more adventure-oriented so it's an adjustment, for sure.

As a Korean, I really wanted to say sorry to you guys. Some people here are hostile to the Japanese due to colonialism; we almost lost our culture as Japan forced assimilation and resources were exploited from my country (also still politically hostile in recent days). However, I know you have done nothing wrong to my country (actually you guys are advertising my country with excellent videos) and that lady was the wrong person (being rude to strangers just because of heritage). I am sorry again that you met this rude lady at your first time in Seoul. This must be the worst impression but I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Korea. I wanted to tell you guys that there are a bunch of crazy people in Korea (to be honest) but there are more nice people who would like to help your journey. And I know this also applies to other countries like Japan; the majority of us want to make the world a better place even while some people don't help with that. I don't know how much time you guys will stay in Korea but I recommend some places (they are a good place to visit in summer) [Chuncheon] (where my grandparents live) - Nice local foods (Makguksu, Dak-galbi, Potato Bread, etc) - Beautiful nature (City is located between a mountain and liver; Samaksan Cable Car; Nami Island) - Many places to visit (Gangchon Rail Park; Cheongpyeongsa; Korean Anime Museum; Soyanggang Skywalk; Legoland) [Busan] (largest port city) - Gamcheon Culture Village; Haeundae; Seogbulsa; Beomeosa - Best seafood [Jeju] (Koreans' favorite tour place in Korea) - Shallow sea water; Hyeopjae Beach (best place to swim in Korea) - Manjanggul Cave; Udo, Jeju Stone Park; Hallasan; - Local foods like Jeju citrus and Jeju Black pig Lastly, I am really enjoying your videos. I see you guys are experienced in selecting nice places to visit and delicious food to eat. And I love your honest and funny reaction to my culture. I have only seen the Korea part so far but I will also watch other videos as it is one of my bucket lists to travel all around the world just with a guitar and I think I can learn a lot from your videos.

First off I just want to say, thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and sincere comment. Even though we are two days late in replying, it was very nice seeing this comment. We wholeheartedly agree with your first paragraph. You phrased it very well. Most people are good. We have learned that a thousand times over during our travels and we continue to see that all over the place in Korea 😊 Thank you very much for the recommendations as well. We will visit as many of these places as we can while we're in Korea. Can I ask, is a car advised in Jeju? Our one trepidation about visiting Jeju is that our international licenses recently expired so we would not be able to rent a car. I hope you get to travel with your guitar! It is the best decision we have ever made!
