DIY Island Clock with Resin, Plaster, and Paint

Ойын-сауық

Evan had a dream about an island themed clock diorama covered in resin, so we busted out our laser cutter, some quick drying plaster, and our acrylic paints to make it happen! Make sure to watch till the end because when we added the bird flying above, the whole clock REALLY came together. Check out the tools we used below! 👇

Hey guys you should check out the properties of your camera sources as there is usually a setting somewhere for camera's with mic's to record both audio and visual, this can as you can imagine create an echo effect. Edit: 1:06:13 you should totally add that moment to the Timestamps as THE FIX.

You need to read the Abarat book series. It takes place in a world where each island is a different hour of the day. There is a 3 PM island, a midnight island. A 6 am island.

In the sense of geology this is a huge volcano that blew up and collapse back into the sea except for a ring of small island that marked the original mountain/caldera and then over a passage of a hundred years or so the center island grew up in the crater in the center and grew above the waves.

Evan!!! I had a really bad herniated disc! Herniated L5S1 and pinched off my sciatic nerve (resulting in permanent sciatic damage). I did PT for 2-3 yrs., tried acupuncture + chiropractors, and had a failed epidural (pushed my disc out a further 3mm). But I got it fixed in an extremely simple, same-day surgery! I had been on disability for 3 years, muscles atrophied, and I literally walked out of the hospital mere hours after my procedure. *Please* - ask a specialist what other options you may have! You could save yourself so much pain and reduce the risk of further damage. My surgery was almost covered entirely by my insurance, so I would definitely say that it's worth exploring! ❤ P.S. PT will still be necessary, after surgery, but it's a world apart from how it was *before* my surgery.

11:00 - The quick setting plaster probably has calcium in it - it's what they use as a catalyst in fast setting drywall mud and concrete - you can buy little bags of calcium in the concrete section of most hardware stores -- and mix your own quick set in small batches - I've often added it to mortar and grout to do quick tile repairs on commercial properties - vary the ratio of calcium added to adjust set time. EDIT: - your plaster may have a different hardening agent, since I didn't see you saying anything about heat -- adding calcium makes it get hot - like car body bondo, or other epoxies -- (so maybe not the best idea when using a plastic base -- so ... never mind ....)

@@clarewillison9379 - I've never used lime as a setting/curing additive -- but that may be a better idea - as I don't think it produces the heat that calcium does.. Not sure about how fast lime works though - I know calcium will set a concrete pour in cold weather without letting the water freeze - which you don't want. - I used to do maintenance and remodeling for a large KFC franchisee ( I was a certified Henny Penny mechanic) - it was surprising how badly cooking oil can deteriorate mortar and grout.

Their take on resin 3d printing makes a lot of sense. It's a kinda involved proccess, which can be enjoyable as a hobby in it's own right, but I can see it as a bit of a hassle if you aren't into it for it's own sake. It's also suited to making small extremely detailed objects, like for a miniatures hobby, more than functional bits. I just printed a velociraptor model that can stand on a fingertip and has tiny needle teeth I can barely see without a magnifying glass. With a $150 printer. But making something like a box is a hassle for a fragile result.

A tip guys, in the UK modelling glue is alot stronger than you think. Working on this scale, you are better off just using the tweezers to dip things in a drop of glue or I use a needle nose bottle for my crafts. That way you aren't fighting with the glue and your tweezers stay clean. Faster and more accurate. First time here though, very interesting and I'll be back!!😂

The end with the music and the bird flying around the islands was so relaxing and comforting. If you could make a little short vid or tiktok just showing off the clock in action to music like that I would legit watch it on repeat.

You guys are such wonderful artists! I always think of Katelyn as the primary artist and Evan as an artist who focuses much more on the tech side of things and chaos but in this stream/video Evan showed us a lot of his skill not only in fixing the tech issues thrown your way but also he showed off his great art skills and judgment. You both did an amazing job and I love you and your art 💜

Suggestion to give Evan [and Katelyn] another paint involved project with texture, since he's enjoying it such much, is to check out Gaffery heavy texture acrylic paint. You can literally sculpt with it. ❤

Wow! Amazing! Wonderfull! I'm so glad it turned out great. Can we all take a moment to appreciate all the work Evan and Katelyn do for us? Consider all the ideas, effort, prep work, time, and safety it takes for one video. Thank you guys for everything. My boyfriend introduced me to your main channel and I've been watching ever since. We seem very similar to ya'll and that makes my day. We always enjoy your videos no matter what's going on in our lives. Thank you Evan and Katelyn for everything. Have a nice day :)

😂 My similar childhood chaos story: I'm about 9 years old, riding my bike with my neighbors, going up and down their driveway. Although the driveway wasn't a hill, it was a long and very straight shot out to the main road. I got up to a really high speed and started losing control, realized I was going to go out into the street and turned to go into the yard next door. I did not expect to hit an inclined paving stone. I was launched into the branches of an ornamental tree, fell backwards, and then my bike crashed down on top of me. Surprisingly I was not injured, but I learned a lesson about watching my surroundings and not riding my bike at excessive speeds.

My "speeding down a hill" story - it was my little sister, wildly out of control on her bike and couldn't remember how to pedal backwards to slow down. There was a 6ft deep canal at the bottom of the hill so I shot my arm out and caught her handlebars. We both crashed to the ground, I still have a little scar on my hand, but she didn't end up in the canal! She remembers it too, says she was mad at me until she was old enough to realize what the alternative was!! We were so wild back then haha

I had a similar moment with my sister but instead we were flying down a hill on our bikes, which was something we were doing for the first time. We both turned to go into our neighbors driveway going full speed but ended up with one back tire and one front tire smacking into each other because I was goofing around, it brought both bikes to a screeching halt. We both got thrown and ended up getting all cut up, I scraped up my hand and knee and I can't remember what happened to her but she was so mad at me. We had to slowly make our way back up the hill to our house and I think a family member had to go and fetch both bikes.

one note about mini painting is to help alleviate the issues of leaning over a lot of mini painters use high tables so you can rest your forearms on the edge while holding the model directly in front of your face
