    For those of you who don't have bulk Sodium Carbonate in your pantry: You can find a lot of it in special dry laundry additives, like OxiClean White Revive, which is almost completely sodium carbonate. Best household source. Hope this helps! :)

    @@mikehughhawk Actually, Baking Soda is Sodium Bicarbonate, not Sodium Carbonate, and will not work in this reaction.

    My grandpa used to show me that I can write a letter with lemon juice using a quil (feather from outside cut at an angle) or a toothpick. Then we would light a candle and very carefully heat the paper and the message would show. Awesome that you can do it with a highlighter!

    You can also just use lemon juice to write and when the juice is dried, just put the paper towards a light source and you'll be able to see the writing.

    Fun fact: some dumb guy thought by rubbing lemon juice on his face it would make him invisible. He robbed a store or bank (I can't remember what) and was confused when the police found him so quickly.

    lemon juice was the trick i thought from when i was a kid... (no highlighter ink) we'd write on paper with lemon juice with a Q-tip and then, we heated it over a light bulb to reveal the image as the lemon juice oxidized the paper and turned brown.

    Lemon Juice alone is all you need. Heat the dried and invisible juice and it will reappear brownish.

    Easier solution: I just have a clear marker and a marker that turns into a different colour when touching the clear marker.

    Sp💀rm can also be used as temporary invisible ink. When it dries, it reveals the written text.

    It’s a common detergent additive. You can normally find it labeled as “super washing soda” in the laundry detergent aisle.

    How does it work? I’m guessing the fluorescein from the highlighters is creating a citrate salt with the citric acid from the lemon which may have different properties but then forms the free base again when reacted with the NaHCO3

    You may extract The Ink with 10 -40 vol hydrogen peroxide,It will also become invisible and It wont make The Ink sollution rancid over time

    Ah, washing soda. Nice one. (The sodium carbonate, I mean. It's cheap and easy to find in laundry section of Coles/Woolworths etc Make XXlitres of your own laundry liquid with it using grated vegetable bar soap, eucalyptus oil & water)

    You can write invisible note with lemon juice and became visible after heating the paper(simple) but it can't be used in Halloween 😅

    I had an erasable highlighter in high school me and my friend took turns drawing obscene things on each others faces then tracing back to erase them. We hilariously found out later that night that highlighter glows when my other friend switched on her black light 🤣
