I hear ya. I agree. The tech & car videos are often the worst at adding crap music in the background and between shots. I wish youtube would require the creators to put the added music audio on a separate track than the vocals so those of us who want to get rid of the crap music and still hear the speaker have the option to do it.

Do you notice a difference in the neck immediately, or do you have to wait a few hours to let it set?

Being a mega Who fan, guitarits and obviously a huge Townshend fan, I know, oddly enough, that Pete Townshend prefers his neck to be straight. His techs set them up that way. Theres videos here on YT of his tech Alan Rogan (RIP), talking about woring for Pete, his guitars, and preferences

I'm confused on the direction to adjust the truss. If I am on low E side of guitar, turning wrench towards high E side loosens the truss?

How do you get the tone back to normal after you adjust truss rod

Do you need to listen your strings before adjusting the truss rod? I see people saying you must while I see others just doing it?

Remember when you were just starting out playing guitar and you were afraid of touching the truss rod? I don't have some of the tools I need so I don't file nut slots or fix frets, but I can rewire a semi-hollow or hollowbody, adjust intonation, and pretty much everything else. One day I plan to get the tools to do it all. Point is, a guy should learn these skills as it does give you a better connection to your instruments.

I would only adjust the truss with the strings totally loosened. Although some say it's safe if to slacken the truss rod if the strings are up to pitch buy not tighten it.

I've seen people saying that you need to let the neck "rest" for at least 24 hours after adjusting the rod. Is that true?

Gibson says .10 is the standard neck releif...Any les paul i ever owned .06 to .08 tops, is where i find its perfect.....Probably coincedence, though .10 is wayyyyyyyy tooo much relief! but thats all preference...My action at the 12th fret is 5/64ths of an inch on the low E, And 3/64ths on the high E....Which happens to be as recomended...I wouldnt suggest anything, if it were bullshit...Im experienced as far as guitar setups...So, if your starting to setting up your own guitars, and your new at it? Id say, save your money and learn, these guys in the video are pros, but where im from guitar shops are becoming obsolete, pretty much, and the last guy i brought a brand new gibson es 335 for a pickup change and set up? put 4 or 5 chips around one of the f-hole, bc he didnt know what he was doing, or didnt care! Probably de/valued my guitar close to $500 minimum, oh and the bridge volume knob dont work, when i go to the bridge? It seems like the volume is set at 10! Probably a bad ground connect, bc the pots i bought and checked out, with a potentiometer reader... And he wanted to charge me, hahahaha...I say just watch some videos, go slow, and youll be able to do just about anything if can use the Gibson multi/tool....KIDS STUFF! This guy knows what hes doing, but only you know how you like your guitar, and there gonna give you the safe measurments..if he lived near me, id definitly use him for my guitars, definite pro....But if your in my position, got burned,or want to save money, theres nothing like being able to become competent, at setting up your own guitars, exactly the way you like them....But, by all means if you have a pro that you trust, thats good too....Anyone need help or have questions,, ill be glad to.... hit me up! Great video!

Informative video, but the background music is so loud it's distracting. Repost minus that music please - it's unnecessary and really makes the video almost unwatchable.

Loosen your strings before tightening the truss-rod

I brought my new strat to Gruhn for a really good setup. They charged me $250 and nothing had been done. I got to work emailing John Caruthers and got the strings down a full 1/16 of an inch ! Thanks for nothing !

Sorry for your loss, l watched these types of videos and saved myself some money, just get a feeler gauge (s) and don't eye ball it. 😉
