DIY Handlebar Bag - MYOG

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this episode of zipworks I make a slim and aero bike handlebar bag with a zippered top. The intended use is to hold a few bars, tools and/or arm warmers on everyday training rides and maybe even going bikepacking. It's a very minimal design, just a single compartment and made from a single panel. Some molle style webbing across the back serves as the simple attachment system to the handlebars, whereby a couple of pieces of webbing with cam locks can be placed in either of loops for the best placement. Some elastic cord that wraps around the stem makes a third attachment point for added stability. The main material used is 1608d ballistic nylon, which I think ended up being a great choice. This fabric is quite thick in itself which really helps the bag hold its structure. Making one of these cycling bags was really quite easy and is a great beginner project in my opinion.
Thanks for watching!

ABOUT
-
This video is not a tutorial per se. This is how I enjoy documenting a few of my projects, it's not meant as a comprehensive sew-along guide. Some may find it useful to see how I like do things but my hope is primarily that some will find these videos inspiring - sparking creativity and ideas for making their very own bespoke gear. My thinking is that by showing the projects in a fast-paced and light-hearted manner conveys the message that making your own ultralight gear as a hobby is not very difficult and ultimately a very rewarding pursuit.
That said, I realise that some people watching this may want to follow along and some of them will be beginners at sewing. I try my best to not leave any important steps out of the clips but for anyone finding it hard to follow even with a rewatch, leave a comment below and I or someone else in the community may be able to assist.

Just finished my bag following these instructions. I made it from some neoprene\foam rubber I had. Holds its shape well. Screwed up the last set of 4 seams and had to rip out all the threads to do it right. Looking forward to giving it a try on the bike soon. Thanks!

Interesting, I’ve never actually attempted to add a liner fabric to one of these things.. How did you go about it and what didn’t turn out so great?

Great video. I'm about to make the handlebar bag and just want to know how you attached the drawcord to the bag and how the bag is secured to the stem. I miss that info in the video. Thanks.
