    Thank you so much for the great tutorial! I'm a beginner with sewing, only twelve, but this was easy even though I did it a little sloppy. It was so much fun and my bag is adorable! Thank you!

    Thanks for this easy to follow trick or treat bag tutorial but could you please tell me what brand Glow in the dark thread you used? I just made the bag and bought some Coats and Clark glow in the dark thread but it doesn't glow in the dark.

    +Sheryl DeMott I used the same brand. My thread doesn't glow in the dark very long. If you want more glowing, you might want to paint a design using gkow in the dark fabric paint.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I actually got my thread to glow after I put it under a light for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately though, I think the heat from the lamp melted some of my thread.

    After you pin the side seams and straps do you sew the sides as well? or were the pins just to hold the sides in place while you sewed the top? Thanks!

  • @DIYwithAshley

    @DIYwithAshley

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure I understand your question. The sides and bottom should be sewn before you place the straps. The bag gets turned right side out from the opening you left in the top and then you're going to top stitch the top of the bag to close up the opening you left for turning the bag right side out. I hope this answer helps explain/clarify the tutorial. Please let me know if you have any other questions 😊

    Just wondering if you used cotton or nylon webbing. I'm in the process of gathering my supplies now and I don't know which one to get. Thanks for your help.

    I used nylon webbing but you can use cotton webbing too. I made more bags with the cotton webbing because it doesn't melt when I turn the bags right side out and iron the top edge.

    What do you mean by 1 and 1 third of 1 in wide measurement? How long is that in inches?

  • @DIYwithAshley

    @DIYwithAshley

    1 and 1/3 yards would be 48" inches of 1" wide webbing.

    What if you dont have webbing but are just making handles from the extra fabric? When you top stitch how come all four layers aren't sewn together?

  • @DIYwithAshley

    I have another tutorial on my channel that is for a square bottom tote bag. In that tutorial I show you how to make straps out of fabric. You can follow the instructions there to make fabric straps for this bag. When I topstitch I don't sew the bag shut, I only sew around the top of the bag to close the opening we used to turn it all right side out. You should not be sewing through all 4 layers of the fabric.

    @@DIYwithAshley thanks for the reply! Yeah I figured you shouldn't be, I am just new and was confused how you could sew the sides and bottom of both layers but not have it get sewn shut when you put them together. I already have the handles but I stitched one layer together already, at what step should I sew the handles together? Or is it the right time to attach them during when you could have ironed the webbing? I'm making my own trick or treat bag for halloween all on my own as a first project so sorry for all the questions!

    If you go back to 1:33 in the video you'll see me inserting the lining inside the main bag with right sides together. I matched up the side seams and pinned them to keep everything in place, then I placed my straps (2:04). Check the straps to make sure they don't get twisted when you attach them, and pin around the top of the bag. Make sure you leave an opening when you sew so that you can turn everything right side out. You'll iron and topstitch after you turned the bag right side out (2:51). I hope this answers your question, if not, let me know.

    At part 1:33 I explain that you need to turn the lining right side out and put it inside the main bag (which is still wring side out). You'll need to place your straps in between the layers and then you'll sew around the top, leaving a 2"-3" opening so you can turn your project right side out. After everything is turned right side out, you'll top stitch around the top so you can close the opening shut.

  • @DIYwithAshley

    @DIYwithAshley

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for the feedback. If you're referring to the part where the lining and main fabric are attached, you need to insert the main part into the lining part with right sides together. Next we pin the straps where they need to be and sew around the top using a 1/2" seam allowance and we leave a 1"-2" gap to turn the bag right side out. The next step is to iron the top if you used cotton webbing and topstitch the top of the bag so it closes the opening we left to turn it right side out. I hope this makes it clearer. If you need clarification, please let me know. I'm more than happy to explain! :)

    I was confused at that part too, I think if you showed where you pulled the fabric out to make it right side out it would of been easier to follow. I was stuck like wait what just happened? I ended up figuring it out after watching a couple of times but that was where I got confused as well. Other than that great video and super simple to do! :)
