you need to check your needle BUT the needle needs to be threaded - adding the thread to the needle is going to increase the size of the hole needed.

True. This project is using very thin floss and the hole was plenty for the needle so worked out fine. Definitely if using thicker thread or your needle barely fitting would thread it.
