    I have 3000 sq ft commercial gym which I have used for over 14 years. My mats 4×6 but 3/4 inches and weighing 100# each. The mats are flat on both sides and on a concrete floor. I periodically have to check for mildew but worth their weight in gold. No odor from Tractor Supply. Good informative video!

    No odor from tractor supply? Do you have a special tractor supply that gets stall mats from somewhere other than Canada? Maybe you think you’re special in the brain that has unscented stall mats? Do you have a smelling problem? Do you dream of lifting heavy iron on your stall mats which mask the odor?

    What about carpeted floors? I recently moved to a new place, and I'm converting a carpeted family room to a gym. For resale reasons, I'd rather not remove or damage the medium plush wall-to-wall carpet currently installed. Will stall mats work? If not, does anyone have other suggestions? I'm not looking to cover the entire area (about 23×15), just under the 4-5 pieces of equipment, including a plated squat rack/functional trainer, treadmill, assault bike, and leg press/hack squat machine.

    I used 3/4” thick horse stall mats over a Berber carpet in my first home gym. While it wasn’t ideal…it still worked fine and I still had great workouts.

    So after being out for 3 weeks, how much smell was left? Was all of it gone? I just bought some mats for a shed gym, ventilation there isnt very good and i typically workout with doors closed. Was planning to leave the mats outside for 2 weeks, but wonder if that might not be enough. (I got the 4x3 1/2 inch from tractor supply, they are flat on both sides, but just work better with the layout of my shed, not sure if that matters)

  • @DesignBuildLift

    After 3 weeks, the odor was barely noticeable. And after a couple of days after installation I didn't notice it at all (I probably just got used to the residual odor). However, I asked others if they smelled anything, and they said no. Since you got the 1/2" mats perhaps the smell will not be as bad as my 3/4" mats - or perhaps just as bad...I am not sure. Please let me know how the PANIS process works for you!

    Is it really worth it to do all that work to eliminate the odor? I would rather get the virgin rubber stall mats or better yet, specialty flooring. I personally have specialty virgin rubber flooring with white speck and they are 20" x 20" x 20mm per tile so they are way easiest to transport and they are connected together using a unique tile connector.

  • @DesignBuildLift

    @DesignBuildLift

    The sun did most of the work…but I get your point. This is obviously going to be a different answer for everyone. As I say in the video- you can skip Phase 3 (Neutralize Odor) if you buy virgin rubber mats. That being said recycled rubber 4x6 mats range from $40-50 each…virgin rubber 4x6 mats from Rep Fitness are $262 each…. So setting them outside for a couple weeks saved me a ton of money.

  • @DesignBuildLift

    @DesignBuildLift

    Жыл бұрын

    I stand corrected… The Rep Fitness mats are $262 for one mat . However, they have quantity based discounts. For example, If you buy 10 mats… they are only $87 each. So Virgin Rubber Rep Fitness mats are a great option for those who do not want to worry about neutralizing the smell. Available here: bit.ly/3AI6CKI

    So even if you don’t bend them when taking them in, wouldn’t they still crack once people started stepping on them?

  • @DesignBuildLift

    @DesignBuildLift

    Жыл бұрын

    No…these are made for horses to stand on….these will not crack. In retrospect, I think that 1 cracked mat was just a dud (no enough adhesive)….that one mat out of the 10 that I bought, had a crumby finish, all 9 others had a smooth finish…. I doubt any of the others would have done that. You should be fine.

    Great question! I made a solution with hot/warm water, dish soap, and the Odoban. I poured it in the mats, and scrubbed with a Scrub Broom. I let it air dry in the hot sun. Then I flipped it over, and the same thing to the other side.

    While not ideal….yes it works. I used to deadlift on top of a horse stall mat when my gym was carpeted, and the surface area of the heavy mat made the lift feel better because my feet were not sinking into the carpet as much when pulling up the barbell.

  • @DesignBuildLift

    Not sure that will work on mats with the “bumps” on the bottom - like mine. Plus I like the tape on top to hide the uneven seams between the mats. But if your mats are flat on the bottom and all the seams perfectly even/aligned - your idea is definitely a smart move!
