DIY Greenhouse Plastic Installation

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is how I was able to get the two layers of plastic installed on my greenhouse. It was quite a day. But with careful planning and a lot of help from the Lord, I got it done. It looks good and needless to say, I'm very happy with the results and my effort. Phil 4:13 says " I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I believe in Him, and I believe in me....and I believed that I could get this job done !

It's 21 x 68, and all the plans were done it my head..many sleepless nights thinking it thru. It's truly a home made, one of kind, greenhouse. I recommend to everyone who is thinking about building one to check on Craigslist and try to find a used GH frame. It can save you a lot of money. Thanks.

Very good job my friend, god bless you! Watching this video reminded me very much of my kind uncle who had passed away not too long ago. He was a very intelligent man who was close to the Lord and had taught me many things in life. He was a carpenter like his father and an electrician and he believed in me even when I felt like no one else did. Watching you work in this video was very enlightening and brought back many memories of him. Thank you very much my friend and God bless you!

Thanks. I like the combination of the greenhouses and typical outside gardening. Both have their advantages. Production crops like corn, peas, and potatoes do better outside. Whereas tomatoes and cukes seem to do better inside away from the elements. I'm blessed to be able to use both methods.

Just wanted to say thank you! We had bought a 24x48 greenhouse from an individual that was taken down laying in a field, w/ a box of white plastic to cover with. Thanx to your videos, especially how you put up the plastic helped us soooo much, dont think we could of done it w/out your help. We just today put the skin on in 15-20+mph winds,we did have 4 people, but the rope tricks and rolling/pulling the plastic on made it possible to get it on finally, the only day that we had. Thanx again!

I just want to say thank you. My girlfriend and I bought two green houses both 38 x 100 and the trouble I was having was trying to figure out how to sheet them using just her and myself. Well after watching quite a few videos I came across yours and that's exactly how we did it. Although it didn't go flawlessly due to the wind picking up ( btw anyone who does do it this way do not skip the part of throwing your ropes over just incase, we used five of them tied to cinder block which absolutely saved our behinds) we were able to do them with just the two of us. Also as not to jinx myself or skip any steps I even went as far as saying "here kitty kitty, here plastic plastic come to papa and we pulled it off. Thank you very much and being new to the whole green house life style I have learned very much from your videos and enjoy watching them.

You can rightly be very proud of that job because you deserve to be. I knew there was a reason for the delay, and what a wonderful reason it turned out to be! With that done, you don't have to worry about the supports after you have the plastic on! God always knows what we need, and did you see how great that cover finally went on! WOW! I'm sure it was hard to do, but you sure make it look easy. I'm so proud of you, and so very happy that you shared it with us. Thank you, Sheila

That sounds like a neat idea, especially for areas that stay frozen all the time. It was a mild winter down here, so I would have had trouble keeping it frozen. I ended up using the channels and wire lock to seal the bottom. It worked pretty well.

I used the channels and wire across the bottom and ends. My curtains were long enough to drop down past the channels and allow me to seal everything up. The only downside is the fact that I have to keep it sealed up a bit longer in the spring to avoid messing around with the wire too much. This one is 21 x 68. Kind of an odd size, but that's what you get with homemade. :)

@REDFTW Thank you. Yes... a lot of ideas. Drip, soaker hoses, manual..I gotta see what the layout of the plants is gonna be. And I'd like to do some type of gutter to catch rainwater, but the only place I can put the gutters is at ground level...which means I'd have to bury the storage containers then pump out of them. Not crazy about that idea.

@JaxRL I have seen that video. "HotSpot" is a UK product. Here in the US, Growers Supply sells a product called "Guardian Felt Tape". I bought a dozen or so rolls to cover the tops of the hoops, especially where the purlin bkts are, to prevent heat buildup and wear. Its some really sticky stuff, adheres quite well. The only drawback is they didn't give a duration of use. So it might breakdown before the 4 year poly does. Time will tell. :-)

@mediamaker2000 My $85 camera gets the job done ! The rectangle is a piece of white plastic that I put up, thinking it might help with light reflectivity. I think its to transparent to be of much use in this way. The plastic is really tough. Just put a couple layers of duct tape on any possible sharp edges and keep going. Even if it punctures the plastic, it won't rip. You just tape over the tear.
